Does anyone know if the Brehm Library has telephone directories or any books that would help me find who was living at this address in July 1924? I am trying to locate a death certficate for my great grandfather mentioned in this newspaper article below. I've sent to the state of Missouri for death certificate for Saxton, Buchanan Co, MO but they could not find a record of John Whalen death there. I would like to know which of his daughters was living at 307 South 12th St, Mt. Vernon in July 1924. He had the following daughters: Laura Belle, Clara Delle, Elva Florence, Golda Jane and Nora Myrtle Whalen. I'm also confused about the count of children in the newspaper article. He actually had more chidlren alive at this date than indicated. He had six sons alive and all five of his daughters. I do not believe this is a different John Whalen as my grandmother's records indicate John William Whalen died in July 1924 and I've been to Farnsworth and he is indeed buried next to his wife, Mary Susan Maulding who died in 1901. Here's what the newspaper has: *Monday, July 14, 1924 Mt. Vernon, IL Register, Page 4 John Whalen, Who Died in Missouri is Buried Today The body of John Whalen was received from Saxton, Mo., Saturday. The body was taken to the home of his daughter, 307 South 12th street. Mr. Whalen's age was 75y 8m 20d. He is survived by three daughters and two sons. Burial was had today at Farnsworth Cemetery, north of Keenes. * -- Sandy (Whalen) Bauer http://www.whalen-family.org "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, Champagne in one hand - strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO - What a Ride!"
