My Mother and I on one of our trips talked to a Charley Kaufman. She also showed me where the big Aydt house was in Belle Town. She said Grandpa Hall lived across the street and when you go into Belle Town there is a little cross street to the right that goes down hill a little. On the left down the hill was where one of the Lanes lived, I think Moses Lane. When you turn left and go down the road that leads to the old Rawls cemetery, on the right is an old building that was the school at one time. My grandmother, Gertrude Hall, went to school there. The Aydts and Kaufmanns were good friends. My grandmother Hall met my Grandfather Lane in Arcola Illinois. They were married in about 1909. My grandmother was proud of the fact that she had not married a cousin like everyone else in Belle Town. One day, my Gr Grandmother Lane was sitting on her front porch in the swing and told her that she had figured out that she and her husband were something like third or fourth cousins. Mom told me her mother was mad for days over that. Isn't that funny! I guess a lot of people did marry relatives. I have tried to figure out many times who those relatives were that made that relationship possible. Never have. Lynda, My Lanes were from thr Arthur/Arcola area. I come down from Margaret Lane who married Edward Adams and then Willis Fulfer , both in Arthur. She was the daughter of James H. Lane Jr. and Elizabeth Denton. Any chance we share common ancestry ? ALL of my Mom's family came from either Hamilton or Wayne Co's. I have a cousin, b. in the 50's in Dahlgren, Hamilton Co., who said she never dated in H.School because every guy she ever brought home her mom told her she was related to, in some way. She later met this guy in Utah and married him. She also wanted to "be sure"!
