William H. Moffitt's parents were John and Sarah Campbell Moffitt. Sarah's father was Alexander Campbell one the first settlers in Wayne Co. I have been trying to find out where John Moffitt and Alexander Campbell came from before they settled in Wayne Co., IL abt 1816. Alexander Campbell's sister was Jane Campbell that married Isaac Harris. I HAVE AN CaMPBELL FAMILY History dated Oct.. 29, 1917. It said he arrive in the Territory in MAy, 1817 It tell the four sons and 2 girls. Somehow I don't have all this copied. I need to go to library and get rest of it. June Alexander Campbell is mentioned on many pages in the 1884 Wayne County History book. Pages 41, 45, 48, 58, 63, 64, 65, 92, 141-50-74-97, 234 According to page 45, George Merritt came with his father's family from Union County, KY., March 25, 1816 first stopping at Concordia, White County, where the family made a crop, and then, in September, came to Wayne County, in Leech Township.
