I found this on the web and thought that some of you might be interested. cindy A day after a tornado touches down in the Heartland and wipes out one whole town and part of another, the Red Cross says there are hundreds in need. And hundreds more who want to help. If you're interested, here's what you can do, no matter where you are in the Heartland. The Integra Bank in Wayne City has set up a fund for the family of the first confirmed death from the tornado. You can donate to the Michael Watkinson fund by calling 618-895-2118. The Peoples National Bank in Fairfield is taking donations for all the families effected by the storm. And to donate, you can go to any of the 7 Peoples National Banks in Southern Illinois or call the Fairfield branch at 618-842-2167. And the Jefferson County chapter of the American Red Cross tells Heartland News they have enough volunteers right now, but they are accepting money only donations. You can mail a donation to: Southeast Illinois Tornado Fund 117 North 9th Street. Mt. Vernon, IL 62864 Or, if you live Wayne County, you can hand your donations directly to volunteers from Wayne City High School, who are setting up canisters around town to collect money for storm victims.
