Is there anyone out there researching the Shrader family of Wayne County, IL. They may have come to Wayne after the 1850s. They may have moved to Nebraska or back to Coles county, IL. Is there anyone else out there researching people migrating from Coles County, IL or with connections to families in Coles, County, IL. Has anyone heard of the Althofen family in Wayne County? Candee Hoff

Emily This is interesting. My Gammons and Lanes lived in Hamilton county IL but both families went up to Arcola and lived in the late 1800s. I think they had cousins and relatives there. My gr gr grandfather stayed in HCI with his family. His name was Moses Lane and his children were: William A. Lane James A. Lane John H. F. Lane Elizabeth J. Lane Thomas Casey Lane Junius W. Lane Mary Ann Lane Cloyd Dutton Lane Sarah Adelaid Lane In the James H. Lane, do you know what Lane stands for. Also, do you have the children of the James H. Lanes from Goochland. Did they come through TN or OH or IN to Illinois. My gr grandmother Lane said there was a connection in Indiana to the Lanes. Moses' father was born in VA and his mother TN. My Lanes were in Arcola in 1910 and 1920 census. Do you have any information on your Hall, parents and siblings. My gr grandfather, William Hall, lived in HCI but was from up north. If he was connected to your Halls, it would make sense that my Lanes would have relatives galore around Arcola. Your Hall may have been a cousin of my Grandmother, Gertrude Hall Lane, Roy Lanes wife. I have loads of Lanes but not one Thomas Lane/ Layne. I have nothing on Roy or any Edgars, but my great grand father (Edward Adams) was also engaged in raising and "trading" racing horses. Greatest family story is that he "sold" horses to Jesse James while off in Kansas City. My Great aunt , Lena Stoller married a Robert Allen Hall in Arthur ILL about 1889. Their children were Eva, Emerson "Bob",Horace Edwin, Arva, and John .Lena remarried a Mr. Reed. I have a Jane Trotter b. about 1846 but she married a Mr. Mulvain and was the daughter of Hiram Trotter and Miss Heming. I have two Lambs, Mary b. 1835 that married Andrew T. Shinall 1855 in Washington county ILL. They are buried in the Bethel Darter Cem. Beaucoup Twp. Washington county ILL. The other is Emaline b. 1827 ILL married to Absolom Adams 1846 Clark county ILL.In both cases, I do have no more on them. The parents of James H. Lane Jr. were James H. Lane Sr. b1798 VA d. 1871 Lawrence co. IN buried Orange county occu. shoemaker and Milly Gibbs b. 1800 KY d. after 1880 Arthur ILL. His parents were Sherrod Lane and Sarah Estes and his were Jacob Lane/Layne and Mary Bradshaw. These are the Goochland county VA Laynes. Wayne Co., IL Researchers I am going to take a few minutes to explain the email list. As the coordinator for this web site, I am also responsible for the mailing list. I have rules I have to follow or the mailing list is assigned to a 'stranger'. I have the settings as high as possible. Right now it for each 20 times an email to 1 person bounces, I get 1 notice. After 80 notices (1600 bounces), depending on the error message for the bounce email, is what happens next. IF the reply is "User Unknown", I remove that email address from our list. IF the error message is "over mailbox quota" I leave the email address alone for at least one month. IF the reply is "server not responding" I ignore this and leave the email address alone. IF I do not maintain my role on the mailing list the list is given to someone else, and believe me, they are not as nice and lean as I do. So, if you get removed, please contact me and I will add you back on. IF you change your email address YOU must unsubscribe from your old address and subscribe to your new one. If you have trouble doing this, contact me and I will do it. Thanks! Dianna Coordinator Wayne Co., ILGenWeb
Wayne Co., IL Researchers Due to bounce notices, Dave got removed from the mailing list. I just got a notice from him he did not want to be removed so I added him back on. Until he gets this notice, I am forwarding this to the list for him. Thanks! I would not be surprised if we are related. My great grandmother and some of her children and their families went to Arcola, IL about 1915 for some reason. I have not been able to figure why. I know that my grandfather, Thomas Leroy Lane worked for Roy Edgar on a farm. Roy Edgar also had racing horses with sulkies. My mother remembered riding on them with her father. I also think some of the Halls who lived in that area may be related. Alice Lamb, wife of Frank Lamb was my gr grandmother's sister. Samuel Taylor Gammon and Janie Trotter Gammon are buried in the cemetery at Arcola. Those are the parents of my gr grandmother Mary Angeline (Gammon) Lane. Do you know who the parents of your James H. Lane were? Hi Alice You may already have this contact but I just got it at church today. Ancestory.com. You can go to any LDS Family History Center--at a local LDS STAKE CENTER. It costs $190 if you subscribe to it, but it is FREE at the stake centers. This site also now includes US census records--I don't know how far back they go. I hope this will help with your geneaolgical research. Came to Wayne County when it was still Edwards County about 1817, from Logan/Christian County, Kentucky. John White with wife Catherine Simons settled in Jasper. As many of you know, my passion is the Clevengers of Wayne County, IL. I have spent 30 years accumulating information on the early families of Wayne County, IL in an effort to understand the lives of my ancestors. It has been a hard uphill battle, because of the lack of information of people who were not in the high social circles of the county. William Andrew Clevenger was not one of them. He must have been handsome as the devil however, but he wasn't in the "in crowd". I am speculating about his handsomeness because of what my great grandmother said about the early Clevenger men. William Clevenger married Nancy Ann Thompson in Wayne County, IL in 1857. and had three children, the last one born in 1862. Then in 1868, White County he married my ancestor Mrs. Nancy Jane Sinnett Williamson. Their first child was born 1868. Nancy Ann Thompson Clevenger discovered this and filed for divorce in Wayne County, citing the arrangement with my ancestor. She received a divorce in the February 17,1869 to March 10,1869 circuit court session. Apparently she remarried a Mr. SMITH and remained in Wayne County at least until the 1880 census. I would really appreciate information, no matter how small- at this stage I will admitt that I am looking for a miracle. Candee Hoff
I am looking for information on the following family and I would really appreciate some help. Nancy Ann THOMPSON (divorced from Clevenger) married Mr. SMITH. The 1880 census shows Nancy A. Smith with son John W. Clevenger in Wayne County, IL. Nancy was 49 years old and born in IL. Ryan Neaveill has her birth date as May 28, 1828. Does anyone know who this MR. SMITH is? Is there anyone out there researching the Thompson family that has a missing NANCY THOMPSON? Anyone out there researching early SMITH families of Wayne County, IL. Thanks, Candee
