    1. Marriage Records?
    2. Karen Lynch
    3. Hi, I am searching for marriage records for James Volney Bing and Sarah Jane Borah. I understand they may have burned down. I have this information and I must have gotten it out of a book, it states: they were married 12/16/1869 at the father of the bride's house, J.C. Borah. I do have photos of her cemetery marker so I know they were married. However, that date has to be wrong because of some other information I have found out. According to LDS records, he married Rebecca Boggess in Ohio in 1869 and he and Rebecca show up in Clay County, IL on the 1870 census. I have looked through the Illinois archives online and cannot find anything else. I have also searched this website and cannot find anything out. Any other ideas? Thanks! Karen

    1. Re: [ILWAYNE-L] Ellen M. Groves (1858-1888)
    2. Guy, Thanks for your information. It is curious that Ellen and her baby are buried so far from where they lived when they died. I find it is not all that unusual for people living during that time to bury spouses and children. It is something that I don't think we can truely appreciate since it doesn't happen so much in our society. As for where I found the name "Barbara" for Ellen's child, I don't have a solid source. I believe it was from an email so don't have a documented source. Shellee

The happy pair were Z. N. Miller and Miss Ella Grove [sic], Rev. G. H. Hilliard officiating." Guy I. 1. Re: [ILWAYNE-L] Ellen M. Groves (1858-1888)
    2. Shellee -- It looks like you already know rather more about her than I do! I can tell you that she married Zadock Noah Miller (my great grandfather's brother) 8 Oct 1884 in Jeffersonville, Wayne, Illinois (Source: Wayne County Press, 9 Oct 1884). Zadock Noah Miller was born 19 Nov 1859 in Middletown, Henry, Indiana; he died 15 Jan 1928 in Lincoln, Logan, Illinois. The Millers were a very large family -- Zadock's parents, George Henry Miller and Mary Jane Tomlinson (my 2nd great grandparents) came to Wayne County from Henry County, Indiana in the fall of 1871. They had nine living children at the time, and two more were born in Wayne County. Zadock and his brother William removed to Logan County late in 1884, almost immediately after Zadock's marriage to Ellen, and the remainder of the Miller clan followed in 1886. Although the family was living in Logan County at the time of Ellen's death, she is buried back down in Wayne County, as is her child. The inscription on their stone in Buckeye Cemetery reads: ELLEN M. MILLER OCT 26 1858 - OCT 22 1888 ERECTED TO HER MEMORY BY HER HUSBAND Z. N. MILLER INFANT CHILD SEPT 1 1885 The child's name does not appear on the monument -- what is your source for the name Barbara? I have always been curious as to why Ellen and her baby are buried in Wayne County rather than in Logan County. Perhaps she went back so as to be near her mother when the baby was born, and when the infant did not survive, they buried the child there in Wayne County? Then when she passed away three years later, Zadock may have wanted to bury her with the baby? I guess we'll never know! As a matter of interest, Zadock married three more times after Ellen's death. His second and third wives also died quite young, and although he had three more children, there were no grandchildren -- he has no living descendants today. Give a holler if you have any more questions. Guy I. Colby IV Irving, TX -------------- Original message from SHELLEEANDERSON@cs.com: -------------- > Guy, > > I have that Ellen M. 2. Shellee -- I have an Ellen M. Groves, daughter of William F. Groves & Sarah ________, who was born in Ohio 26 Oct 1858. She appears on the Wayne County census in 1880 as a single woman living at home with her parents and siblings. According to that census entry, her father was born in Pennsylvania. I have not researched her family or ancestry, but I can tell you a little about her, since she married my great grandfather's brother in Jeffersonville 8 Oct 1884. 1. 1853 Wagon Train
    2. I don't know where the information came on the families in that wagon train, but some of them weren't from Meigs Co. Perhaps a big train was being put together and the word got around, but they were not residents of Meigs Co. Jacob and Mary Lappin Hawk were married in 1854 in Wayne Co. Illinois. They came from Vinton Co. OH. Mary with her parents Robison and Phebe Starkey Lappin and family. Mary was born in Morgan and Jacob in Vinton, but I think they might have known each other back there as this family was in both counties. Amos and Miriam Davis Smith came from Monroe Co. OH about that time. They had lived there for about 10 years and had been in Belmont a few years before that. They were originally from Bucks Co. PA. Sarah Smith States did come later as she didn't leave Monroe Co Ohio until some time after her husband died in 1861. Don't know if this helps or hinders. I think there were a few other families that came from Monroe Co about that time, but not sure if they came together or not. That would be Bazzle and Matilda Dye Leak, William D. and Jane Smith Waller, John and Synthia Smith Waller came right after 1853. She later married Edward Burroughs, Naomi Weddle came shortly after 1860 with her children and married Thomas Caudle shortly thereafter. Also would have been William and Maria Mitchell Dye who came about that time. Alice Lappin Montgomery probably came about the same time as Robison and Phebe Lappin. Her husband died in Vinton Co in 1842 and she brought most of her children with her. If anyone has a letter, ad or anything saying they all came together via Meigs Co I would love to know it as always wondering how many at a time crossed the country and if they came via the Ohio River and then over land or over land the whole trip. Jerilyn

    2. Richard and Mary Grove Anderson were Baptists and they could very well have been on the wagon train. They did come from near Chester, Meigs County, Ohio and ended up in Lamard in Wayne County. Samuel and Elizabeth Campbell Groves were members of the Mt Hermon Church of the United Brethern in Meigs County. 1. Illinois Libraries With Genealogy Areas
    2. Jeanne Delaney
    3. The following website lists Illinois Libraries with genealogy areas. Let me follow that statement, however, with the fact that it lists some of the libraries, not all. The URL is: www.eliillinois.org/ Look on the left side of the screen under "Library Information Sorted By...". Click on the fourth entry, "Special Collections in Illinois. On this screen, toward the right, click on "Geography & History". The next screen will list categories with libraries under each. Scroll down to GENEALOGY and libraries with genealogy collections are listed there. You can then click on the library name to get additional data, including the library's website address. I found this site quite by accident and discovered that a neighboring town had a genealogy collection in their library. All of 10 minutes away! There, I was able to find, at last, a reference in one of their books to one of my brickwalls!!! Jeanne
