While researching something else in the Wayne County Press of 1866 I came across the following item that I thought someone might be interested in: MR. E. MCCLUNG, proprietor of Fairfield Carding Machine, having secured the services of MR. JAMES HARPER, a carder of many years experience, is prepared to do good work in that line. Unfortunately I put an erroneous date on the sheet I xeroxed. I had written down 5 March 1866 for the paper's edition date but there is an Administrator's notice on the same page dated 29 March 1866. There is also an "Administrix' Sale of Real Estate' Notice that mentions the sale will be 13 April 1866. So the date would appear to be in the realm of 29 Mar 1866 through 12 April 1866. Jeanne

Hi, I've sent this query to the White County, IL list but thought since this family lived in Burnt Prairie that perhaps there might be someone in Wayne County who might have some information on them. I'm at that point where I'm grasping at straws. My G.G. Grandmother Susan Hunsinger, b. 1822-1828, White Co. IL married twice. She married first, 22 June 1845, White Co. IL, Stephen Watkins. Her second husband Charles Atteberry was my G.G. Grandfather whom she married 24 Aug 1848, White Co. IL. I would like to find out more about Stephen and Susan's daughter Mary Elizabeth Watkins, b. 1846-1847. Mary married 27 Jan 1866, White Co. IL Jacob Gray, b. ca 1840, d. Nov 1905, White Co. IL. Jacob and Mary are listed living in Burnt Prairie in the 1880 Census along with Jacob's Mother Rebecca. Does anyone have any information on Jacob, Mary, Jacob's parents or his children? Thank you for any assistance you can give me, Lois Branch http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/b/r/a/James-E-Branch/
I just found that there was a coroner's inquest for my g-g-grandfather. I am requesting a lookup in the record. If copying is allowed could someone possibly get a copy for me? I will gladly send the cost. I'm interested in youor nancy Short (b. abt 1797 VA died in Wayne Co, IL) Is she related to Thomas Jefferson Short (1807-1870) and wife Patricia Martha Mattox? They had a daughter named Nancy but of course she could not be the same as your Nancy. Could your Nancy be a brother of Thomas Jefferson Short? In researching something, I xeroxed a portion of a page from the Wayne County newspaper from 1866 that had the following marriage information I assume that Mobile referes to Mobile, Alabama: MARRIED [From the Mobile Sunday Times] March 19th 1866, at the residence of the bride's father, by the Rev. Dr. Masey, JOHN W. SCHELL, of Fairfield, Illinois, to Miss MARY E. PRIEST, of this city.

Does anyone know what happened to the town records when the town(s) died in Wayne County?. Did they get sent to Fairfield or did someone keep them in their house or did they get thrown away (ouch!)? Anyone know or got any ideas? Jeanne
Hi Lois, I have the following information. If you have anything else, please share. Melvin Burroughs was born March 1898 and died March 28, 1899. I don't have a burial place for him. Mary I only have a birth date of February 1900. I have nothing further on Edward or another unnamed son who was born June 24, 1904. Perhaps this son and Edward are the same. I don't know which. I have Maggie's parents as James McLin and Wilmoth Fitzgerald which came from the parents listed in her marriage application. If you hear anything about this family, let me know as Cynthia/Synthia Smith is one of my line. Jerilyn
