Wayne County Researchers Thanks to George Gregory, we now have over 300 photos posted for Garrison Temple Cemetery online: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilwayne/cem/garrison/ Please let me know if I missed any links or made mistakes. George has been busy taking photos at another large cemetery but I'll keep it secret until he and I can get that one done. He took approximately 1600 photos in that cemetery so it will take quite awhile to get that one done!! -- Sandy (Whalen) Bauer http://www.whalen-family.org "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, Champagne in one hand - strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO - What a Ride!"
Hi All, I seem to have lost the Wayne County site so would someone please send it to me? Would like to check out the marriage information that has been added to it. Thanks. Roberta Summers
Good Morning Karen! Thanks for the kind words! That Marriage Certificate was a lot of work and, many thanks to the volunteers (Harry, Linda, and Lois) for their work! Without them, this would not be here. Ok! I know there were some Marriage Certificates that could not be read so we did not put them up. Sorry about that! Otherwise, all the marriage certificates on microfilm are on the site. Again, Thanks! Wayne Co., IL Researchers There has been a few confusions regarding to the Marriage Certificates. After you click on the Certificate link, scroll down to click on the letter of the first letter of the surname you are looking for, one side for Brides and the other side is Grooms. Scroll down that page until you find your couple. In the FAR RIGHT SIDE of the page are letters MC with a line under them. This line means it is a link. CLICK on the letters MC to see the certificate. YES! YOU MAY DOWNLOAD ANY CERTIFICATE! PLEASE read the page before you start to prevent the confusion(s). ALSO, if you find a link NOT working, PLEASE CONTACT ME so I can fix it. I was told several links for the Grooms were broken. This is to let you know the link for the following was fixed: Marriages Certificates GROOM --> C Thanks! Dianna Coordinator Wayne Co., ILGen Web http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilwayne
I have one family with the last name of Hoffee. The spellings that I find are Hoff, Hoffe, Hoffey, Hoffer, Hoffy. This applies even when I look at the Illinois Marriage and birth websites on IRAD. I can usually spot "my" relatives because the birth date or age is the same. The wife, children have the correct names, etc. I also have problems finding the Fildes family. But, I expected that since none of my school teachers could pronounce the name. That one I find under Fields, Filds, Files. However, with my research, I have also found that there is a line of Files that are not related to my family. After searching the census for years, I have started to recognize, the "other Files" family. I hope you get some luck with Dianna doing a look-up for you. Jerilyn I have had several people tell me when they use the images on Ancestry or Genealogy that they can not find people. Lucky me! I have Betty Beeson's 1860 Census book. She did a GREAT job transcribing this. If you want to send me the names I can try and look it up in the book? Dianna I find it's often due to the census taker spelling of names. If you browse through the actual images on ancestry.com, you can usually spot your family if you know where to look. I've spent many hours browsing through Wayne County census images and find some pretty interesting spelling of the names. Am I the only one who can't find people in this census that I am sure were there? I have looked and looked under first names, last names, any way I could search. Went through a township house by house. Just one family I could understand, but there have been several and wondering if I am alone. Jerilyn
This email was suppose to go to the list but did not. Can anyone help Liz? Thanks! Dianna -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [ILWAYNE-L] Richard L. Clark Date: Fri, 25 Mar 2005 08:49:15 -0800 From: Liz Cameron <lizcam@earthlink.net> To: Dianna <ilwayne@shawneelink.net> References: <42422A1C.3030801@shawneelink.net> Any Richard Lee Clark Descendants: Does any one have any information about any descendants of Richard Lee Clark? Richard came to Wayne County about 1840 and died there in 1883. I am looking for any descendants of Richard who descend from other children besides his son, William. I have been working for many years on the family of William C. Clark who lived to his death in 1909 in Wayne County. I've made contacts with many descendants from William's 10 children but have been unable to trace any of Richard's other children forward. I am really curious about Richard's other children and their descendants. According to the 1850 and 1860 census, Richard had the following children: William C. b. 1828 S. F. 1831 (male) Thomas 1834 Catherine 1837/9 Mary 1840 Martha 1841 James 1843 Samantha 1846 Richard H. 1847/8 Richard's first or second wife with whom he had these children was Mary 'Polly' Jones, daughter of William Jones who died in Marion County, Illinois. I have alot of information about William C. Clark and alot of information about Richard, a War of 1812 veteran, and his 8(!) wives, but nothing about the other descendants of Richard. This is such a mystery to me. Any body have any information? Then, of course, there are the ancestors of Richard. That's another great mystery. Curious Liz from California P.S. Dianna, if you read this far down, thanks for your hard work--a great surprise! Several of William Clark's children's marriage certificates are in the file. Wayne Co., IL Researchers I realized I left out information about about the Marriage Certificates via the county clerk. These reproduced certificates were sent to be microfilmed about 10 years ago, of which is BEFORE Donna was in office. Donna, the present County Clerk, has been doing a GREAT job and is doing her best to preserve all the records. Because of her great efforts, I am making arrangements for her to get an award for being the most 'Outstanding County Clerk". Last, I will be giving my paper copies of these back to the court house. I am sorry for not mentioning this and fixed it on the index page. Dianna Coordinator Wayne Co., ILGen Web site

Because this is a 'free genealogy' site, I took all the books for sale off the site EXCEPT ONE. I left this one because it has good history and families mentioned that are not in the one on line. Scroll down to 'Books 4 Sale' 3. I have LOTS of stuff to upload! Since this Friday is the anniversary date for Wayne Co., IL, I will be uploading for about the next 3-5 days. I will send email out for each upload and, I will update the 'What's New' box. 4. If you have something to submit, now is a good time to send it. I am trying to find the parents of Sarah Margaret YOUNG and Savicy YOUNG. Any help with this would be most appreciated. Here is what I know: Sarah married Perry COLBORN in Clay Co on 12-25-1850. I have found no children from Sarah's marriage to Perry. I think Perry died about 1851 as Sarah married Thomas T. REEVES in Clay Co on 8-14-1853. Prior to marrying Sarah Margaret Young COLBORN, Thomas T. REEVES had married Savicy YOUNG in White Co on 6-21-1839. I have found no children from Savicy's marriage to Thomas. Thomas and Savicy are on the 1840 Clay Co census and that census shows 1 female in the family, age 15-20 (1819-1825), but according to the 1850 Clay Co census Thomas is living with a wife named Elizabeth age 33 (1816-1817). I don't know who this Elizabeth is as I find no marriage record of a Thomas REEVES to an Elizabeth and "Elizabeth" does not meet the age of the female (who I assume is Savicy) living with Thomas in 1840. I know that Sarah and Thomas had at least two sons (William Elisha REEVES and George W. REEVES) because the marriage records of those two sons indicate that the grooms' parents were Thomas T. REEVES and Sarah Margaret YOUNG. I believe Sarah Margaret YOUNG died in 1859 as she is not with the family in 1860 (in fact the family is split up living with several other families in 1860). Also, the youngest son George W. REEVES was born in 1859 so maybe Sarah died giving birth to George W. Now the questions: Since Savicy was married in White Co is she the daughter of Christopher YOUNG or William YOUNG? Both Christopher and William were in White Co in the 1830s and both had several daughters. William is later found in Edwards Co but several of his descendants moved to Clay Co. Conversely, Savicy YOUNG and/or Sarah Margaret YOUNG could be a daughter of John and Susan YOUNG of Wayne Co as John and Susan had at least one daughter (Ruth YOUNG) who did marry in White Co. Did Savicy YOUNG die between the 1840 census and the 1850 census or is she the "Elizabeth" who is on the 1850 census but the age of 33 for the "Elizabeth" on the 1850 census is wrong and she is using the name "Elizabeth" instead of Savicy? Often when a man marries two different women with the same maiden surname the women are sisters. Are Sarah Margaret YOUNG and Savicy YOUNG sisters? Thank you for any assistance you may provide solving this mystery. Eldon
