Wayne County Researchers I didn't realize until yesterday that I had failed to post the photos for Cisne (Yarnall) Cemetery that I took last summer. Sorry about that. I'm running way behind on getting things posted to our website. More to come whenever I get a chance to make another trip back to Illinois. No plans for this year due to my change of jobs. If anyone wants to volunteer to finish photographing this cemetery, let me know. It's an easy cemetery to get to and very well maintained. Lots of the older stones are extremely hard to read as they face the direction that the weather seems to come from so it looks like they are getting "sand blasted". I tried using blue chalk on many but still hard time reading them. Some I decided to not even attempt to post on the website. There are still many more gravestones to photograph at this cemetery. Here's a direct link to the cemetery: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilwayne/cem/cisne-yarnall/ The cemetery is on the west edge of town (Cisne). Enjoy! Sandy

Wayne County Researchers, Rod Simmons has a dilemma he needs help with. Can anyone go to the Cisne/Yarnall cemetery in Cisne and check and see if they can find Gilla & Isham T. Simmons gravestones?? I made a quick trip there last year but it was late in the day and I was unable to photograph the whole cemetery. This cemetery is very well maintained and right on the road. The cemetery is easy to find as it's on the west edge of town. Where Rt 45 makes a big right curve, you take the local road that kind of goes straight and you will see the cemetery shortly on the right side of the road. There's a nice big sign so you can't miss the cemetery. Here's a link to a map showing the location (note it's a really long URL): http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?ovi=1&zoom=7&mapdata=RwuiQHYj5qm0ryIUVDvB%2bdN4U3ctc4NZyZln%2bn5cmWCLFWlq23yrmDemLpf05tcYa1mba6ucSwTfDJCb%2fLIwaVb6ukv7WGU%2fuetxTH8rExpm%2fI%2bYeJmsNrzrue15xt7maAXV5PneZFDRL0irLRMeYTXK2L9x%2bCjoef7cPX%2fqsDt9HOySenCi7NAwZ3JdUvnXdwEltuEFhiBDANj9bCjaesUwQpwSgOPA7yuvud%2f9FesHkaBf11jqcyeKGbaaeWphJARnnMHzu0Kc3%2b%2f%2bXLylLC0aBQA%2fCcDsc1gFRNvaFpZAJgD8V%2fNoHEfydlDO1S3xRcyO3maR6PAn%2bkDU%2fyWvtuNWw50DGCsX1C69%2bf7IC8PSMzBIdMjlxx3jXIbYGqyGYK%2b6N7WHHcHe4BmYxwXUCQC5U14UCqaId%2bPjDttJdRjRw8FNdKqfDTAZBhCiqA0kVtQWxbmLKGiAmbyYE14KOnW17BCokkpL Sandy -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Question and/or suggestion Date: Sat, 25 Jun 2005 09:30:03 -0700 From: Rodney Simmons <actorrod@hotmail.com> To: sandyebauer@comcast.net Sandy; According to the buriel listings I've found, Gilla & Isham T. Simmons are buried in the Cisne Cemetery outside Cisne, IL. My problem is that three people have gone there to look for their grave markers and none were found. There does not appear to be anything resembling an office at the cemetery itself. Is there somebody in Cisne that has records and can give me a more precise location in the cemetery as to where their graves can be found? That information added to you cemetery listings might also be of use if added to the rest of the cemeteries as well. Thanks again for all your hard work on the web page! Rod Simmons

Thanks to Bob Jones, we now have more complete information on Cincinnati Cemetery in Berry Twp north of Sims. Bob photographed this cemetery and is working on all the photos but in the meantime, we have the text posted. Enjoy: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilwayne/cem/cincinnati/index.html I have not yet had time to link in obits to all the cemeteries but that's a project I hope to accomplish some time in the future. -- Sandy (Whalen) Bauer http://www.whalen-family.org "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, Champagne in one hand - strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO - What a Ride!"
Martha Lou Whitson was the daughter of Fred Sill and Gertrude Jefferis. I would like to work with someone who might know something about his ancestors. Thanks. Jerilyn
Hello all, I'm hoping someone would be able to help me with some obituaries. I'm searching for this full obituary: "Wayne County Press" May 17, 1888 "Died, May 11, 1888, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Malinda CREWS, Mrs. Margaret A. MARTIN in her 77th year..." I'm also hoping to find one for Monroe Martin, who died 22 Jul 1888. He left a wife, Ellen (Curry), and two daughters that I know of, Anna Belle and Nora L., I believe. Ellen later remarried to William Atchison in 1894. I'm hoping data from these obituaries may help me fill in some further blanks on my own Martin family line! Thanks Mary (White) R. . This information is from the New England Historical and Genealogical Society eNews Vol. 7, No. 21 Whole #220 May 25, 2005 NHPRC Funding in Danger of Elimination The National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) is the grant-making arm of the National Archives and Records Administration. Through the course of four decades, the Commission has awarded $153 million to thousands of archives, colleges and universities, and individuals to preserve and publish important historical records that document non-Federal American history. President Bush’s budget recommends that all grant funding and staff support for NHPRC be eliminated in the next fiscal year. Such an event would vastly decrease the preservation, let alone the availability, of records for genealogical research. For more information on how this will impact genealogists, and how you can help, visit the FGS/NGS Records Preservation and Access Committee at http://www.fgs.org/rpa/formalactions.htm. This one is driving me nuts. Charles H. Hill was born August 21, 1857 in Wayne Co., Illinois to Thomas M. Hill and Susannah Cummings. His father died from measles in Kentucky during the Civil War on January 26.1862. His grandfather, John Green Hill, then became the guardian of Charles and his little brother Edgar, but Edgar died 1864. Susannah Cummings Hill died from consumption March 27, 1864. Thomas and Susannah are buried in the Yarnall Cemetery in Wayne Co. Now my dilemma, I can't find Susannah or Charles on the 1860 census either under Hill or her maiden name in Wayne or any surrounding counties. I found Charles in the 1870 census in Bedford Township living with his grandparents and then nothing. Is anyone hunting this person, knows what happened to him or anything about this distant relative of mine? Thanks. Jerilyn
What is her last name as I have so many addresses I can't find her by the first name in order to fix the address? Thanks. Jerilyn

Hello Judy. I am a POTTER descendent. Rance (John Ransom) POTTER was my Gr. Uncle, son of Asa HAYNES POTTER b. 1849 d. 1930 and Elmira/Elmyra ALEXANDER b. 1852 d. Dec. 31, 1893, both b. and d. in Fairfield IL. They were my Gx2 Grandparents. To my knowledge, Bessie COPURTWRIGHT POTTER who m. Charles POTTER son of Clarence POTTER son of Rance POTTER was still living as of about two years ago. I know they had one son, Rick POTTER. I can get in touch with him. He is still in the Fairfield area. Bessie gave me a lovely picture of Uncle Ransom POTTER the last time visited her. If you go to the Wayne Co. website and click on "I think" obits. you can see his pic. and obit. I have several unidentified pics. of the POTTER/ALEXANDER family prob. taken in the early 1900s. I would love to see the pics. of the COURTWRIGHTS. Don't think they would be among my stacks, but then who knows. You can email me at braisl@madisontelco.com . Elaine Suhre Thanks Sandy for keeping all of us together and in touch.
Can anyone answer Judy's question? -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: Doris Bland books Date: Wed, 18 May 2005 02:27:46 +0000 From: Judith Norman <judithnorman@hotmail.com> To: sandyebauer@comcast.net Hi Sandy, Thanks so much for the prompt reply even if it wasn't quite what I wanted to hear. ........ One question though (but stay tuned there may be more later), do you know of any children of either Clarence and Bessie Potter or Ed and Jessie Voris who might still be in the area? I have two great photographs of the Courtright twins, Bessie and Jessie, that I would like to see returned to their families since I am the last of my family who will appreciate them. They aren't direct ancestors of mine but Bessie was named (so she said anyway) for my grandmother, Bessie Molt Humbarger and the families remained very close. I've taken enough of your time but thanks again for all your suggestions. Judy Norman
Harry, Thanks for the Wayne County Published Reserves. It is nice to have such a list. I have recently published a Family Genealogy that includes a large BULLARD family who were pioneers in NW Wayne County in the early 1800s and many still live in that area. A copy of "William and Nathan Bullard Family History and Genealogy" by Spencer Ardell Bullard, February 2004, is in the Fairfield, Albion, and Mt. Vernon Libraries. It includes generations of this family that settled near Johnsonville in Indian Prairie and near by Townships. -------------- Original message from "Harry T.
