ILGen Web http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilwayne Yahoo Voice Chat id = d1anna46 AOL-IM id = dlwillie 1 =============== To Researchers The U.S. Department of the Interior, has been directed by court order to disconnect all databases that allow access to "individual Indian trust data". Since the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is under the directive of the DOI, it has been disconnected, along with some other vital databases. You can read the DOI memos concerning the court orders at: http://www.doi.gov/ Below are more links if you are interested in the latest news about the court order disconnecting the DOI's databases, including our favorite Land Patent Search at the Bureau of Land Management. Briefly, the databases that seem to be affected are: Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Bureau of Reclamations (BOR) Fish and Wildlife Services (FWS) Minerals Management Services (MMS) National Parks Service (NPS) another favorite! 1. [ILWAYNE-L] Seeking a Collector of Springfield IL Documents
    2. Vincent E. Summers
    3. Dear Folks, At this URL, http://www.jasper17.wayne.k12.il.us/Museum/civilwarimages/ff_lincoln_connection.htm is made this statement that is of importance to me... "In 1866, about a year after Lincoln was assassinated, Hesler's studio passed into the hands of George B. Ayres. The full impact of Lincoln's legacy had not yet dawned on people, but Ayres decided to keep the negatives as mementos. A year later he sold the studio and moved East, taking the negatives with him. Five weeks later the studio burned. Ayres left the negatives to two daughters, and in 1932, a Philadelphia lawyer accepted them in lieu of a fee and debt on the estate of one of the daughters. When the attorney attempted to send them by mail to St. Louis, the negatives were broken, making it impossible to obtain any further prints from them. They were turned over to the Smithsonian Institute. These were believed to be the only existing negatives of the historic picture until the fall of 1952, when King V. Hostick, Springfield collector of historical documents, found a duplicate set of negatives in an assortment of effects he bought in Philadelphia from the Ayres estate. This print was made from one of these negatives." Note, please, that one King V. Hostick is mentioned as the recipient of the remaining negatives. Now I feel certain that he is no longer alive, but I am curious as to whatever became of these negatives. George B. Ayres (George Bucher Ayres) descends from a common ancestor of mine, and as I am carefully researching the entire branch of these Ayres from County Antrim, Ireland, I seek to learn all that I can about him. Indeed, I know quite a fair amount! Can you tell me at all about Mr. Hostick? P.S. I am not related to any Illinois, or nearby AYRES. George came from Philadelphia and returned there. He was not a native. Thanks! Thanks, Vincent E. Summers

    3. This only affected people with AT&T, about 1.4 million people. There are still 3 million others on the @home network that did not have their service cut off. On Feb 28, 2002 @home will be going out of business and all the remaining customers will be transerfered to their local cable company for service. 3. Wayne Co., IL Researchers FYI, I was one of the many people that got cut off and out of service Saturday 12:01a.m. until late Tuesday night. The reason was, @home.com pulled the plug on us. Therefore, if you are contacting someone with @home.com as their server, the email will bounce. Most likely, when their email is restored it will be as mine, @attbi.com. AT&T BI will NOT forward any @home.com users to our new server. So, if you know anyone using @home.com change it and try @attbi.com My NEW email address is: [email protected] Please change this in your address book. Thanks! 3. Dianna has asked me to send this to the list. Once again she is without a computer. AT&Tbis her provider and they are not functioning at this time. Anyone who is on athome.com cannot receive or send email. It is her understanding that anything sent to someone will bounce. She will be back as soon as ATT&T gets its act together or she finds another provider. I told her that if she didn't have bad luck, she'd have no luck at all. Peg

    3. I am originally from Wayne County, IL. I have not lived there for several years. About three years ago, I started working on the Farris genealogy and have since branched out into the other lines mentioned above. My father was George Washington Farris (1898-1985), my mother was Alice Elizabeth McKitrick (1908-1993). My father's mother was Martha Arabelle Trotter (who's mother was Polly McCormick Trotter); my mother's father was Frank Obidiah McKitrick and her mother was Ora Dell Edwards. If anyone has any information on any of these lines I would be glad to hear from you. Marion Eugene Farris, email [email protected]

    3. Good Morning Wayne County Listers, There have been articles in the Wayne County Press about a new book that has been written about the Shelton Gang that lived in and around Wayne County during the 1940's/50's. The book was written by Taylor Personeau. It can be ordered through the author's website at www.downstatepublications.com <http://www.downstatepublications.com/> . The Press article says that the author interviewed a Shelton descendant for the book. This is not an endorsement or advertisement for the book, I haven't even read it, but there has been several articles about it in the Press and I thought anyone interested in the Shelton family might want to know about it. I can't stand the thought of the consequences, so here goes. NOW EVERYONE SAY IT WITH ME ... "I will NOT get bad luck, lose my friends, or lose my mailing lists if I DON'T forward an email! I will NOT hear any music or see a taco dog, if I DO forward an e-mail. Bill Gates is NOT going to send me money, Victoria Secret doesn't know anything about a gift certificate they're supposed to send me, and Ford will not give me a 50% discount even if I forward my e-mail to more than 50 people! I will NEVER receive gift certificates, coupons, or freebies from Coca Cola, Cracker Barrel, Old Navy, or anyone else if I send an e-mail to 10 people. I will NEVER see a pop-up window if I forward an e-mail ... NEVER!!!! My phone will not MYSTERIOUSLY ring after I forward an e-mail. There is NO SUCH THING as an e-mail tracking program, and I am not STUPID enough to think that someone will send me $100 for forwarding an e-mail to 10 or more people! There is no kid with cancer through the Make-a-Wish program in England collecting anything! He did when he was 7 years old.He is now cancer free and 35 years old and DOESN'T WANT ANY MORE POST CARDS, CALLING CARDS, or GET-WELL CARDS. The government does not have a bill in Congress called 901B (or whatever they named it this week) that, if passed, will enable them to charge us 5 cents for every e-mail we send. There will be NO cool dancing, singing, waving, colorful flowers, characters, or program that I will receive immediately after I forward an e-mail. The American Red Cross will NOT donate 50 cents to a certain individual dying of some never-heard-of disease for every e-mail address I send this to. The American Red Cross RECEIVES donations. And finally, I WILL NOT let others guilt me into sending things by telling me I am not their friend or that I don't believe in Jesus Christ. If God wants to send to me a message, I believe the bushes in my yard will burn before He picks up a PC to pass it on! " Now, repeat this to yourself until you have it memorized, and send it along to at least 5 of your friends before the next full moon or you will surely be constipated for the next three months and all of your hair will fall out!!!

    3. Martha Are you also interested in all McIntire and/or Rankin obits? I am not able to help you with this one but I do have several 1980's and 1990's obits. I searched both surnames and got several responses on each. The newspaper is on microfilm, Wayne County Press. Don't know if you can go through library loan (or would want to for 1 obit). But as Guy said maybe one of our subscribers that live there will be able to help out. Let me know if you do or do not get anyone to help you. Thanks! Dianna Wayne Co., IL Coordinator Wayne Co. 2. Martha -- Fairfield has a nice public library -- I have done some research there. If there was an obit published in the local paper, I'm sure they would have it. Of course, that doesn't do you much good out in southern California, but perhaps one of the subscribers in the Wayne County area can look it up for you. Guy Colby in Texas
