Wayne Co appears to have been a stopping point for my family between places back east and Logan and Sangamon counties, except for the HART and BROWN families. John and Susan Mobley TAYLOR arrived in Wayne Co in the spring of 1819 and moved on to Sangamon Co in the spring of 1829. John and Sophia Koonz BROWN arrived after 1838 and before 1850. 1850 census lists them in the home of Emanual Brown. John and several children, including his youngest son, Thomas, are buried in Buckeye Cemetery east of Geff. Julius Caesar and Catherine Carroll HART and family arrived in 1853. He and wife Catherine are buried in Buckeye Cemetery east of Geff. I believe their daughter Margaret Hart Brown (wife of Thomas Brown) is buried there also in an unmarked grave. George and Mary Jane Tomlinson MILLER and family arrived around 1872 from IN and moved on to Logan Co in the mid 1880's. Two daughters may have been born in Wayne Co. In the 1880 census, the household included George's father, Henry; I don't know when/where Henry died. Am especially interested in information about John and Thomas Brown. Thomas twice lost his wife and was left with small children. First wife was Margaret Hart who died in 1863, leaving daughter Lorinda (2-1/2). Second was Elizabeth A. Butler, who may have been a widow; she died in 1879, leaving Ella (5) and Lucretia (2). Thomas died 20 May 1900, but I haven't been able to identify where. Any links to other list members? Still researching the BRANCH family who lived in Lamard Township of Wayne County Illinois 1852 to 1900, near Geff (Jeffersonville). The Rev. Sam'l S. BRANCH had ten children who grew up, married and remained in that area during those years, and many grandchildren. Sam'l S and many family members are buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Geff. His children were: 1. Cyrenis "Si" BRANCH had four daughters and lived in Indian Prairie near Xenia. Si is buried at Powers Cemetery. His children: Rilla Belle SCHOENINGER, Lucy HAWLEY, LuElla COCHRAN, and "Louie" OLIVER. 2. Hannah Branch married Oliver HAMMOND, lived in Brush Creek Township, is buried at Campground Cemetery, Xenia. They had Laura J. who married John E. OSBORN. Oliver Hammond died in the Civil War and Hannah married second, Titus BUFFINGTON. They had Myrtle W. "Nannie" who married Mr. HOWARD and moved to Denver. 3. Samuel Curtis BRANCH (twin) - my line 4. Stephen Smith BRANCH (twin) married four times 5. Mary BRANCH born 1837, disappears between 1855 and 1860; may have died. 6. Sarah Ann BRANCH born 1838, disappears between 1862 and 1884. May have married Mr. BOGGS. In1868, a Sarah Ann BOGGS signed as witness to half-sister Hannah BRANCH HAMMOND's Civil War pension. 7. Joseph BRANCH moved to Minnesota after returning from the Civil War. 8. Levi B. BRANCH married Clarinda PHILLIPS, moved to Kansas but buried at Centralia Illinois. Daughter Ida Elizabeth BRANCH never married, died young. 9. Marilla BRANCH married William DUDREY, moved to Kansas where she died age 36. I would particularly like to find information on the two daughters Mary and Sarah Ann. Any BOGGS researchers who have a family member marrying a Sarah Ann in Wayne County about 1855-1865? ALSO would like to know more about "Nannie" BUFFINGTON who married ---- HOWARD. From her father's obit, I know that Mr. Howard was still living in Denver in 1906, and worked as a machinist in a Denver foundry...... AND Nannie's half sister Laura J. who married John E. OSBORN. Would like to correspond with anyone researching any of these families. Carolyn Remember, you have a friend in Oklahoma!
Carolyn, I have two Matilda Branch's. One b. 1823 M. 17 Feb 1858 Piatt co ILL to Peter William Trotter b. 1823 Frederick co VA, the son of Wm. Trotter and Barbara Dick. The other is b. about 1855 m. In Clinton co ILL to William Trotter b. 1855 (d. Wichita KS) the son of William Trotter and Mary Trotter. I would have to check my paper records as I may have the Matilda part wrong , it seems to me all I had on one of these ladies was Miss Branch and may have entered Matilda in error on one. Sound familiar ? As some of you know, I am a host for the Wayne Co., IL on ILTrails and I will continue to be the County Coordinator on for Wayne Co.., ILGenWeb on rootsweb. Then recently Sandy Bauer was asked to be the Coordinator for the Cemetery (and photo) project. Do you like the 'old' frame way (now used on ILTrails: http://www.iltrails.org/Wayne 4. Do you have a suggestion? The web sites are done for you and this is why we need your feedback. Also, some people are still using older computers and webtv. We need to hear from you to find out, what do you prefer because it works best with what your equipment. Thank you for taking the time out to read this and hopefully you will take the same time out to explore and let us know what you like. Remember, this site is for you and your feedback is important!
