RE: [ILWAYNE-L] 1875 Plat Map It's from: Illinois County Histories Washington, Wayne, and White Counties 332 thru 337 Reel 89 County & Regional Histories of the Old Northwest, Series 4, Illinois For some reason, I didn't write it down, but if the University of Indiana is in Terre Haute, that is the place. In any case, it was from a collage or university, but definitely Terre Haute. Jane

Does ANYONE have ANY photos of ANY of the "Horton's" of Wayne Co.Ill in the 1800 and 1900's? Will be glad to pay for copies/ postage. Very important! Thanx!
Please Are the property owners listed and how do i get. I am not knowledgeable enough to read the address on the bottom ( aren't they usually in blue?) I am looking for Archibalds and Johnson in Zif and Wm Brown in Brush Creek. A reply appreciated Tha nk you Roland Bauer (Part of the Morris' from Xenia). "Tony R. Earlier this year I put a request in at my local library in Virginia for a copy of the History of White County from the Inter Lending Library (ILL). It took about five weeks, but a microfilm duly arrived. Imagine my great delight when I found it not to be what I wanted, but a section of Illinois history published in 1883, 1887, or in that time frame. It included Washington, Wayne, White, and Gallatin counties. Gallatin and White had split at one time, so I assume that is why it was included. My families came from Wayne, White, and Gallatin which made this film so perfect. Each county had photos of important people, homes, businesses, some records, etc. And there were plats with names very clearly listed on their lands. I was interested in Brush Creek and found my great great-grandfathers Waller and Gaumer. The microfilm came her from Terre Haute, IN. If not available or readable elsewhere, you might want to try this route. Jane
Liz, Tony, and all Sandy is in the process of putting the 1881 on the site. It will take her some time but it is coming. As far as I know the books are sold out but can be found at various historical and Fairfield public library. Thanks! Dianna
That's very interesting. Do you have any pointers on where to find property descriptions of landowners for 1875? My ggg grandfather, James Wickersham, is buried in Johnsonville Cemetery. Tony: The closest map to that time period with names of landowners on it would be the 1881 Standard Atlas of Wayne County. They have a copy at the Fairfield Public Library. I have a copy of the Indian Prairie page and don't see the Wickersham name at a quick scan. When did they leave the area? My great great grandparents are buried in Johnsonville Cemetery too. Wayne Co., IL Researchers Here's a link that has many of the IL counties and platt maps for 1875. I just checked. The map at this URL for Wayne Co., IL is the same map that 'used' to be on the site. I decided to have it located with all the other maps to give us more disk space for other genealogy data. Also, this map is VERY HARD to read, another reason I had it removed for our site and put there. I suggest you use your 'microsoft magnifier'. If you do not know how to find it, contact me and I'll send you directions on how to find and use it. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/maps/illinois/il1875/ Thanks! Dianna I agree with you completely. I run our corporate virus protection software and am behind a firewall to make sure I do not get any virus or send any virus. Klez is nasty because it makes it look like anyone in the person's address book that has the virus is sending the virus out. Wayne Co., IL Researchers I have received 3 email in the past week from people stating they received email from me and it is the Klez virus. As soon as I got the email, I triple checked with 2 anti virus programs and came back clean. After the 3rd email, I took my computer in to the dealer. They said I do not have any virus. I looked into the Klez virus. What happens is, when you get this virus, it jumps around your address books. What it does is takes one name in your address book and pretends to be that person and sends itself out on another piece of email to another person. OR IF you have the virus and depending on its mood (?), it takes your address (since you may have the worm) and sends email to others. The ONLY way to get rid of this virus or any virus is EVERYONE MUST go to the web site that owns the anti virus software you have and download the latest '.dat' file(s). Then follow the instructions to find and kill any virus on your system. Even if you run your anti virus, if you do NOT have the latest '.dat/ file(s), you wasted time and the virus is still having a picnic on your system. Check the anti virus web site at LEAST ONCE A MONTH (I check 3 times a week) for the latest news and files to download. PLEASE once you do this, set the anti virus to check your email and downloads at all times!! If you do this, ALL email and downloads are checked for a virus, will alert you if you get one, and will remove it IF you set it up to do this. We MUST work together to be 'virus clean'! Contact your internet provider if you have any questions or problems. Also ask them if you need the 'firewall' protection. FYI, I have 2 anti virus software's running at all times (in case one misses it the other will grab it). and a firewall running at all times, even when I am playing games or dvd. Please, protect yourself!! If you do not know how or what to do, contact me for help. Thanks! Wayne Co., IL Researchers Just to let you know I added 1 new article to the site, please take the time to read it. One of our own researchers just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary!! I have not been avoided the site with data. I have been very busy 'repairing pages. Each page USED to have 3 logos (ILGenWeb, USGenWeb, and 1 rootsweb) on the top 3 lines of links about the disk space / our providers Now each page MUST have that removed plus the "I love rootsweb" logo on the bottom of each page. PLUS, for each person that submitted on article or data to the site, you are now the copyright owner of that data on that page! This means another web site or organization can not copy it to place on their web site or sell it without your permission. As you know there are several 'charging for membership' or 'selling data' web sites. I am putting the 'copyright and submitted by' on each page so neither of them can 'sell' or 'make money' off of your free data. At the bottom of the page, the copyright is for the 'design' or 'layout' of the page. Fixing each page is VERY time consuming, as we now have over 20,000 pages of data with those 3 logos and lines on top and 1 logo on the bottom that must be removed and, to add the 'copyright' on the top of the page. I apologize for not getting new data on the site or uploading data that was sent to me within the past 6 months. I ask that you be patient with me so that I can 'protect' this site and keep it free genealogy. Thanks! I just visited the Wayne Co site. I see where there's an obit for Jonathan Stull submitted by Peg Jones on the site. I'd be most interested in contacting her, as I have my great grandfather's funeral card that is contradictory to this info. Thanks! Sande in CA

Wayne County researchers. I have added photos to Miflin Cemetery and and added more names and photos to Victory Cemetery. I have also added some new cemeteries thanks to Dave Toombs. We now have some graves in Oak Valley, Thackrey-Gray, Simpson (Wintzenburger) and Bestow. Please check out these new additions. Sandy
does any one have access to see if my great grandmother is buried in Bailey cemetery, Wayne county? Julia Francis Ayers Leathers, born 1865, believe died Oct 1894. Thank you.
Trying to locate the burial place of my great grandmother. Julia Francis Ayers Leathers Born 1865 Wayne county, Believed to be deceased around Oct 1894. Though she might be in Baileys Cemetery. any way to get a look up? Thanks,
I am looking for any kind of help involving Toombs research in Wayne County from around 1810 to 1860 involving what I believe to be two William Toombs (sp Tombs, Toomes, Tumes) that were in the area. I know that there was a William Toombs in the area around 1817/1818. The other William Toombs married a Rebecca Gray in the late 1840's to early 1850's. Their farm was real close to the Thackrey Gray cemetery location of today and I am sure the Wayne/White County border may have changed over the years to confuse things even more. I am looking for any information or help on either William Toombs or Rebecca Gray. Thank you! David Toombs
