Wayne Co., IL Researchers First, from Sandy and I, we would like to wish everyone Happy Holidays!! This will be my last email for about 3 days. For a Christmas present a friend is upgrading it for me with new hard drives, memories, software, and much more. Therefore, I will not be doing a big upload tonight as planned because he needs my computer for 48 hours (at least). But, New Year Eve there will be a big upload and lots of new data, hopefully something for everyone. Have a safe holiday, give someone a hug, and remember to love. See ya New Year's Eve. Dianna and Sandy
Wayne Co., IL Researchers Just to let you know I found that the link to the 1884 Bios for the City of Fairfield A-L was not working. I fixed the link and added the first 3 files for M-Z. Thanks! Dianna Wayne Co., IL Coordinator: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilwayne AOL-IM id = dlwillie 1
Hope this helps somone. This is not my line unfortunately. I just thought the following might be of interest to someone on this list. I think this is a good lesson why one does not ever assume anything. Get proof! This "proof" shows this is not my line. Certificate of death stamped 14207 (R467) Alanzo D. I am considering the purchase of a PDA for my genealogy travels or perhaps inheriting my husbands when he upgrades, but before any action is taken I am wondering what programs there are out there for the Compaq. These are the high end PDAs and have great memory potential and they use the memory cards which I currently use in my digital camera so would be a great combination for me. I currently am carrying my computer into all the libraries, court houses, etc and by the time find a place to hook up and also carry the weight it is getting tiresome and would like something lighter to carry with on my travels. My husband travels a lot for business and if he is going any where that I can find some research I go with but with the new regulations at the airports, it is a pain to open and display all my computer paraphernalia and refuse to put it in the hold. Genealogy Computing had an article on the PDAs this summer but only addressed the more inexpensive models and since I have the change of the better one I don't want to tell my husband I will buy his off him and then find out no programs will work with it. Any help on this matter would be great. All my material is in Family Tree Maker. I know the Compaq PDA uses a form of Microsoft so all my spread sheets would work, but need the family information and I still haven't found time to put in all my collected data and sure don't have time to put it in another unit. Thanks. Jerilyn
Jerilyn I'm a computer gadget nut and I have both a Palm V and a Compaq iPaq 3835. I can tell you that I would rather take my laptop and scanner with me for genealogy work even though it is a hassle to get through airport security. You can export your files from Family Tree Maker into gedcom and then open on your PocketPC device (like a Compaq iPaq PDA) with some free software You may find you are happy taking notes or adding to your spreadsheets on the PDA but I just don't like the small size myself personally. I stick to using my PDA for keeping my address book, calendar appointments and MP3 player. I prefer my laptop for genealogy research. I have a Dell Inspiron 8100 with a CD-RW and DVD drive. I can burn CDs to share with others. I carry a Canon N1240U scanner which I think has now been replaced by model CanoScan LiDE 30. I bought mine for $79 and it's been worth every cent. It's USB and doesn 't require a separate power supply. I took it with me on a trip to Surry Co, NC and had no trouble taking my laptop and scanner into the library and courthouse in Dobson. I opened my laptop, attached the scanner and scanned to my heart's content. I do use a rolling case that holds my laptop and scanner and my Canon S40 digital camera so I have everything I need when I travel and it rolls everywhere very easily. Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth of opinion. Hello Listers, Sorry if I misseed the answ3r before , having tons of trouble with the mail here, so I am reposting. I am looking for a John McGuire and wife Nancy. John I have seen in Land contracts buying land in Wayne county in 1853, 54 and 55, but can not locate him in any census. John was born in 1813 and marrid Nancy Wheat in 1827, Ray county Missouri. They had several children, but don't have the names readily available. Does anyone have the 1860 census? Is there a person that will do look ups for death records? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Bob _________________________________________________________________ Tired of spam? Wayne County Researchers I have added the rest of the pictures I took back in September at Salem (Davis-Mateer) Cemetery. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilwayne/cem/salem/index.html Enjoy! Sandy
Researchers Thanks to Lois Branch we have some cemetery records for Atteberry Cemetery, Barnhill Township online. Harry Bryan provided more photos for Bailey Cemetery for the old section and I can't remember if I told the list about the additions or not. Anyway, take a look at Bailey - he's done a fantastic job providing this information for the website. I have also linked the photos back in. I notice we are missing a few photos. Somehow they seem to have been misplaced and I'm trying to find them. If you run across a missing picture, please email me telling me which photo was missing so I can put on my Sherlock Holmes hat and try to find the files. Thanks Sandy

Most of what was covered in the show, most of us already know from the research we've done in these two counties. The show was called "Wrath of God." > What was interesting about this show was listening to the meteorologists. None of them understand what happened that day. They all said tornados don't travel for 219 miles. What they happened was there were several tornados, probably 4 or so. They think the active tornado spun off another tornado which continued the destructive path. That tornado spun off another tornado, etc. They also don't know what happened to the tornado. They usually lose strength and stop. This one, just stopped and vanished. > In the story, if I was listening correctly, I got the impression that later that night, there was snowfall, which is also very unusual. > In the show they also had numerous photographs, some interviews with survivors, and interviews with authors who have researched the tornado as well as interviews with meteorologists. I apologize for not writing down the names of the survivors who were interviewed. I can't remember their names. > Carol Janes > --------------------------------- > Do you Yahoo!? > U2 on LAUNCH - Exclusive medley & videos from Greatest Hits CD > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 > --part1_165.1626a3a6.2afc0f08_boundary-- Hi -- The message you submitted to this list (included above) wasn't sent to the list subscribers. RootsWeb accepts only plain text mail. That means that HTML mail, attachments, ``enriched text'', and a few other formats can't be sent to RootsWeb mailing lists. You can post your message if you send it in plain text; turn off the ``Post in HTML'' or ``Enriched Text'' features of your mail reader, or don't use any attachments. See http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/listadmins/plaintext.html for instructions on turning off HTML in most of the popular mail programs, or ask your ISP's technical support line for help. We've had to institute this policy because of the problems that accompany these fancy mail formats. Some people don't have mail programs that are capable of processing the special file formats. Even among those who do, different mail programs handle these special formats in very different and confusing ways. HTML messages pose special problems to our digested mailing lists. Most of all, HTML-ified mail and attachments place a considerable burden on RootsWeb's overworked machines. All in all, mail in this format produces a lot of problems for RootsWeb's servers and subscribers, so we find it's best just to use plain text. -- The RootsWeb staff --part1_141.22f8df0.2afc1270_boundary--

Beverly, I just checked my notes and the information I have on M.L. Puckett is different than what you seem to know. I would really like to discuss this with you some more. What I have came off of familysearch.org and I am just getting started so I havent verified it yet so it may well be incorrect, or there may be another M.L. Puckett that I am unaware of. Mike
