Hi Lois We have the information about Doris Bland's cemetery books our our Wayne Co website. See the the following cemeteries in the Indian Prairie Township where Johnsonville is located: Wesley Chapel, Johnsonville, Jones Graves, Cates, Schell and Hale. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilwayne/cem/bland-books.htm You will find there are "tabs" at the bottom of the page that you can click to see different sorts of the cemeteries and also the map with the numbers for each of the cemeteries. You will see the volume number of the book that Doris published on that cemetery or else you can look on our website to see if we have any information for these cemeteries. Am looking for school records of the 1905-1910 of Mount Erie township. In the 1910 Census my grandparents are listed District 15, Enumeration district 130 on sheet 5B, Pitcher, Jacob H. wife Emma, son Leonard H. age 13 and son Dewey age 11. Now these boys evidently attended school somewhere. Does anyone know of the schools in the Mount Erie Township, during that time and if there are any records anywhere? Would love to get some copies of these school records. Thank you for suggestions. Nita
Wayne Co., IL Researchers Just to let you know we have a blizzard coming in from the west. My cable modem is 'flickering' so in case no one hears from me or the Widow's Relinq. data is not updated tomorrow it is because I am down. My Daughter lives 45 miles west of me and the storm is there now. Can not see more than 5 feet ahead, 30+ mph winds, and a bad 4-letter word... snow (Ha!!). The temp has dropped big time. Hang in there!! Thanks! Dianna Wayne Co., IL Coordinator
Wayne Co., IL Researchers Just to let you all know the Wayne Co. site has a new page, Coroner's Inquest. Thank you Cindy for letting me know I had the wrong link on this., I fixed this link so take another trip! Sorry about this... Thanks!! Dianna Wayne Co., IL Coordinator
Wayne Co., IL Researchers I have gotten several request from people asking about ordering the 1884 Wayne - Clay History book. That book is sold out. Though, a person is willing to take your money up front ($75.00) and wait until at least 20 people order the book before printing any more. May I suggest a Wayne Co., IL history book that is just as good, as interesting, and cost less? Scroll down to Books 4 Sale and click. Scroll down to History and click Scroll down and look for Early History by W. R. Jones sold by Gene Wheeler. I have both books and enjoy this one much more and, in some cases he added information on families he knew personally (or was related to). It is a slow job but I am trying to get all the bios and township history from the 1884 Wayne - Clay history book ... so this will be good to have too! Contact Gene today! Thanks! Gale I've copied our Wayne Co list to see if anyone can go out to the cemeteries and check for David Mauck. Maybe we can find some folks with Confederate ancestors that can help you out. As long as you are not copying directly from a book/manuscript (Doris Bland, etc.) you are NOT infringing on anyone's copywrite. There is no limit by copyright on the number of people who can publish books on a given topic, such as Wayne County Cemeteries. >Hello; > >For those of you who don't know what I am doing in Wayne County, I am doing cemetery books with inscriptions plus I am adding a picture of each stone in each cemetery. Hello; For those of you who don't know what I am doing in Wayne County, I am doing cemetery books with inscriptions plus I am adding a picture of each stone in each cemetery. These cemeteries are cemeteries out of White County. I will not do any books on Wayne County cause Doris Bland has already done them and I don't want to infringe on her copyright. I will however be happy to take pictures of any family stones and send them to you via the internet. So if there is any cemetery in White county that you are interested in please feel free to e-mail me and let me know. Thanks, Michelle Young
Hi all; Hope everyone has been avoiding the flu bug that has been going around. Just alittle update on the cemetery books w/pictures...I received a digital camera for christmas this past year so I am just chomping at the bit to get warmer weather so that I can resume taking pictures for these books. I do have a request from anyone wanting a cemetery in the books. I had kept all of your previous e-mails but last year my computer had a power surge go thru it and all of my information including 2 years of work on my family was gone. Had to get a new modem and start all over again. So please when you all have some time e-mail me personally and refresh my memory on what cemeteries are of importance to all of you. I am hoping that I will have my first book done by this summer. Keep your fingers crossed.... Sincerely, Michelle Young
All - this is not related to genealogy but thought you should know about this. If you use the Microsoft web browser, IE (Internet Explorer), you should read this and get the patch referenced below. Microsoft posted 2/5/03 a cumulative patch to fix all the previous security bugs and this latest on their website: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/810847/default.asp Microsoft issues security bulletins for IE and XP IE flaw deemed 'critical' InfoWorld - By Ashlee Vance February 06, 2003 Microsoft issued two security advisories Wednesday, pointing to a "critical" flaw in its Internet Explorer browser and a second, less severe problem with its Windows XP operating system. The problem with Internet Explorer stems from a security function in the software designed to stop one domain, such as a Web site, from sharing information with another domain, Microsoft said in a security bulletin. Microsoft has discovered that such information sharing can occur when certain dialog boxes are used. An attacker could create a Web page that takes advantage of the flaw and use it to run malicious code, possibly in the form of an executable file, on a computer used to visit the page, Microsoft said. A related vulnerability allows an attacker to access a user's system via HTML pages that display help content, Microsoft said. The company recommended that users with Internet Explorer Versions 5.01, 5.5, and 6.0 download a patch for these problems. The security bulletin, including links to the patch, is at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-004.asp The second warning, for Windows XP, concerns a problem in the Windows Redirector software, which is used to access local and remote files. By sending bad data to the Redirector a hacker could cause a system fail or, if the data were crafted in a particular way, run malicious code on the user's computer, Microsoft said. The flaw in XP can't be exploited remotely and an attacker would need the ability to log onto a system to run programs that use the Redirector, according to Microsoft. Nevertheless, it said users should consider installing its security update for the problem and rated it an "important" issue. The security bulletin, including links to the patch, is at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-005.asp

Hello I am searching for information on: Sara Jane HOLIDAY BROWN ( Mrs Wes Brown) of Xenia 1863-1927 Buried at Powers Church, S of Xenia The death cert. for the above show she was living in Xenia and died 27 October 1927 as a result of being "hit by a street car". I don't believe Flora, Fairfield or Salem had street cars. Possibly Centralia or other. Does anyone have access to a Flora or Fairfield news paper of this date? They may an article. This would be news as i doubt many people died in a street car accident in Flora, Fairfield or Xenia in 1927. Sara Jane is our Gt. gr. mother, whose father was in the IL 111th, and killed in the Battle of Atlanta. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Lossie Jean Morris Bauer Collinsville, IL Researching: Morris and Brown of Xenia, Archibald of Cisne, McCaully of Flora, IL 111th, Holiday of Marion Co, plus others
Thanks to all of you who gave me info - Guy, Sandy, George and Laura. I appreciate it. I was afraid that I would be out of luck. I was in the area this past fall and didn't find any info but thought maybe there was something I was missing. I live in California and don't get back to Illinois too often. Thanks again. Pat
In a message dated 1/28/2003 4:50:22 PM Central Standard Time, [email protected] writes: > Can someone tell me if there is a way to check births in 1871 in > Wayne Co. without going to the courthouse? Pat -- As you already know from Sandy's response, the courthouse burned in 1886, so birth, death, and marriage records prior to that time are hard to come by. However, if you're willing to do a little digging, there are some alternatives to private family records. For me, the most useful source for this type of data in the pre-1886 period has been newspapers. Early issues of various Wayne County periodicals are preserved on microfilm and are available both at the library in Fairfield and in the archives of the Illinois State Historical Society in Springfield. It takes some careful searching -- old newspapers are not always easy to scan -- but I have successfully documented a number of births, deaths, and marriages from this source. As an alternative to searching the microfilm copies, you can use any of several published books which contain abstracts of vital statistics therefrom (again, the Fairfield library has these). These books are indexed, which makes the task much easier. My experience, however, is that the books are far from being complete or exhaustive, and the serious researcher is better off going directly to the primary source. Hope this helps. Guy I. Wayne County Researchers Bob Jones and I have been discussing how we might add photos to our Wayne County website to allow folks to see similarities in family traits. I thought it might be interesting to have collections of photos of descendants of a given person. How do you all feel about this? For example, my great great grandfather, Squire Davis lived in Four Mile Township north of Middleton. I have a photo of him and his wife and most of their children as adults. I could create a web page with links to this photo and then link to one of his sons, my great grandfather, David B. Davis and then a link to each of the children of David B. Davis (including my grandfather, Alfred Davis), and then links to children of these children, etc. I will post an example on the website for you all to review and see what you think. Comments or suggestions??? Sandy
Pat You may be out of luck since as our website home page states: There was a resident of Wayne Co. (name not known) that wanted a new court house. On the night of November 17, 1886, he set fire to the court house. That fire destroyed all the vital records and most of the other county court records in the Recorder's Office. Finding someone else researching the family may results in bible records or other help in determining birth but you really can't count on the court house in providing extensive records before 1886. It is so frustrating for those of us wishing to find information on our families that we know were in Wayne County prior to this time and would like to have birth or marriage or death records.
