I don't have much, but there is a notation in the book Mt Erie History and Stories of By Gone Days published By the Mt. Erie Homecoming Committee, September 3, 2000 that there was a hotel built and operated by David Holmes on the southwest corner of the main square one block east of the Methodist Church. Sorry, but there is no date or further info. Sandy (Nana) Thank you for the 'reminder' that this guy(?) is back. PLEASE people, this is a scam! I just went to the site and now getting pop ups like crazy and my Norton Security raised a flag. Do NOT go to this site. It is set up as a search engine, of which you are 'charged' to use. The results of this paying search engine is what you get on the 'suggested FREE search engine' (some are listed on the site). Thanks for the warning Sandy. Roland We have a map on our Cemetery page to show cemeteries in the different townships. You might want to take a look at it: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilwayne/cem/cemetery-township-map.jpg Sandy rb2 wrote: >Does anyone have a map of Wayne County showing the sections and >townships. ,? > >Can you scan it or what ever > >Thank you >Roland Bauer > >Researching: >Archibald -Zif Twsp >Morris - Garden Hill >John Brown township unknown >Burkett >Henson >McEndree >Holiday > > > >==== ILWAYNE Mailing List ==== >Any questions/problems regarding the Wayne County, Illinois list, >contact the listowner, Dianna Williams mailto:[email protected] >Visit the Wayne County, Illinois Genealogy web site at: >http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilwayne/ > > > >
Thank you Larry. This is just what I need. I found copies of some land grants from the Bureau of Land Managenet and want to follow them through. I am going to forward this on the the list. Roland What year(s) are you looking for? There is one Platt map on the site, we 'think' is about 1924. I have Platt maps 1881 (?) and 1910 that we are working to scan and get on line. Thanks! Dianna

Hi, First let me give a BIG thank you to those who have helped me with my recent queries on the Wayne County list. Thank you really doesn't cover the overwhelming feeling of gratitude I have. What a great list. Now I have another question: William P. Henson, b. ca 1875 Wayne Co. IL., married Maude Clair Burroughs on 2 June 1901, Wayne Co. IL. He and Maude had close ties to Wayne Co. IL but moved to Walnut Hill, Marion Co. IL. About 1909 William (who may have used the name Jess) went to SE Missouri to work in the timber. It is said he was killed in an accident while working. Does anyone have access to old newspapers that might be indexed to see if there is an obit listed for William? Since he was from around the Wayne Co. IL area I thought there might be an obit for him. Or for Maude who died on 9 April 1928. Maude had married after the death of William and Mr. Thomas Perry "Tom" Lee. Thanks for any help you can give me. Warm Regards, Lois Branch
Dianna I don't see any problem. I did check reject list and it had a gap in it. So I closed the gap. Everything else seem right. Hi, Can anyone tell me where the location of the Wayne County Poor Farm would have been? Does anyone know when it was built and the history of it? Thanks, Lois Branch http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/b/r/a/James-E-Branch
All I've updated the way the school photos and names are presented on the website and added one new school submitted by Dick Osha that he believes was in Mt. Erie, named Vandaveer. Also added some new photos of gravestones for Johnsonville Cemetery submitted by Liz Cameron and added a few photos for Gifford Cemetery submitted by Mike Choatie. Thanks to Mike too for helping me merge a map with locations of cemeteries in Wayne Co. Quite a few more photos of people have been added. I still have more obits/death notices to get posted so expect some more updates over the weekend. Use our Wayne County search engine to easily see what information we have for a family name you are researching: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilwayne/sengine/wcsite/search.html If you have time and think you might be related to any of my family, check out my personal website: http://whalen-family.org Some of my Wayne County surnames are: Bennett, Boswell, Butler, Davis, Shrum, Maulding, Whalen, Williams Sandy Cemetery, Obituaries, Photos Coordinator http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilwayne
Sandy, LA County library has a copy of Doris' books (thank goodness) . . Johnsonville is in VOl. #4. On pg. 55 I found the following entry: H.W. Stoddard, born Apr. 10, 1824, died Dec. 11, 1905; Amy M., wife of H.W. Stoddard, born Aug. 18, 1826, died Sep. 27, 1900. Didn't see any other Stoddards in that cemetery and I didn't have time to look at any of the others or for the children. They weren't listed with H.W. & Amy. Hope this is helpful. I know how it is to be without a resource.
