    3. Marian, Our mutual cousin, Rick Stein of Carmi, told me a few months ago that Dave Land, son of Tom and Peggy Land, was in charge of the reunion. You could contact him at their radio station, WFIW, in Fairfield [618-842-2159]. You could probably even find an email link from their web page at: www.wfiwradio.com I'm copying this to the White County List as I know you're a subscriber to it. 1. [ILWAYNE-L] Death Lookup
    2. MaryR
    3. Would anyone have the resource to do a death look up for me? I'm looking for the death date of Mary Ellen (White) Miller. She was married to Dr. John W. Miller. I know that she died sometime between 1900-1906, and they were residing in Wayne City. If anyone could supply me with this data, I'd be so very grateful. Thanks Mary White - Roark Idaho P.S. I think I just sent this in error to a personal address. My apologies for that. Meet 30,000 Eco-Friendly Individuals: http://www.Care2.com/connect/

    1. [ILWAYNE-L] Joseph White
    2. I have just been apprised that some of the information in my file on this family is incorrect. That is what I get for trying to help someone with information I didn't personally research. Anyway the lady correcting me said they were both born in Ireland, not married in December and are buried in White Graves Cemetery. Please correct this if you took my accounting off this list. Very sorry, but I was trying to help. I try not to send wrong information out until I have sourced it, but this was a family that married into my family. Jerilyn

    1. [ILWAYNE-L] John White Families-Early Settlers
    2. MaryR
    3. Would anyone happen to have information on the Families of John White, who came from Kentucky and were early settlers in Wayne County? It looks like they may have been in Edwards County first, which makes sense since Wayne County was derived from Edwards Co. >From what I can tell there was a John White, who came with much of his family. Other branches that seemed to come from this John were a William White, b. abt 1772; a John White Jr., b. abt 1786 who was married to Frances; and a Joseph. There is also a Milton and a Chauncey White around in 1820, that may possibly be connected. According to the 1850 Census Descendents names include: Henry Cynthia Thomas B. Milton H. Mary Phelps John Jr. William Richard Joseph and so many more. If anyone knows more about this family, please let me know. I'm trying to connect a James White, b. abt 1832 into this family. Thanks Mary White - Roark ..One Nation Under God.. 1. Re: [ILWAYNE-L] newspapers on film
    2. When I first requested something from the lending library, I went to my local library armed with all locations holding the material I wanted. However, their listing was more extensive than mine. My assumption was that what I wanted would come either from Illinois (the location of the subject) or from Pennsylvania (the closest to my location in Virginia). Imagine my surprise when the film arrived from the University of Indiana in Terre Haute. So my advice is to go to your local library, tell them what you want, and let them do the requesting. My librarian now knows me quite well and is more than happy to simply enter the county I want. We go through the list together and choose whatever looks like something I can use. I'm allowed to have only three requests at a time, so I try to stagger them. It is interesting to me that so much of Illinois genealogy books and film are sent to me from various locations in Indiana. Jane

Since the courthouse fire in 1886 destroyed all Wayne County vital records prior to that time, these old newspapers constitute one of the few available sources for that period. I was able to document the marriage of my 2nd great grandparents from an 1864 issue of the War Democrat, and I found several helpful obituaries. I made a trip to Springfield to do my research, but if that is infeasible, interlibrary loan would be the next best thing. Guy I. Colby IV Irving, TX

    2. Hi, Diane. You can just go to your local library and tell them what you want. They look it up and send the request. I live in Virginia, and it usually takes about six weeks or so. I've received both books that I can check out, and microfiche that must be viewed in the library. Jane

You have also been great teachers. I am awed by all the people who are so willing to share their information, and/or do a lookup for someone else. 3. There was an article in the April 10th issue of the Wayne County Press that says the City of Fairfield will buy a former medical office and turn it over to the Wayne County Historical Society. The City is going to lease the building to the Society for $50 a year so that the Historical Society will have its own home. The building is "one of the older homes in Fairfield" and located on the corner of South First and Center Street. There is no indication of a date when the Historical Society will move trom its present location at the library, but I will try to keep the list updated with any developments. Diane Bunting Lehner
