Hi Marci, The Nashville News items are great and interesting to read, even if we never see an ancestor. Thanks for taking the time to share them. I have not used PAF, but have used FTM (Family Tree Maker) for about 8-10 years. I think a lot of people seem to use it, so that is an advantage. Some parts of it have been improved in their latest 7.0 version, but I think it also came with more bugs that should have been cleared up before it went on the market. I have had to call for tech support twice for 7.0 and I am not sure the problem is corrected yet. There are some interesting reports that are available on it though. The 7.0 has a map feature, but I need to explore it more before I can say much about it. I have some of their CD's and like some of them, but not others. The 1850 census for the entire state of IL is worth the $55 or whatever it was. It is a set of 4 CD's. It is actual film images of the census and is indexed. If you choose to print a page, however, it is smaller than if you printed one directly from the census film. Some of the marriage CD's are not easy to search, in my opinion, and not all marriage CD's seem to work the same. I haven't figured out a way to search for a specific surname in a specific county, without starting with the other states that come before it alphabetically and going through all of their counties. It can be searched by a specific county and state, but I just have to scroll through all of the names to get to the name I want. Maybe I don't know exactly how to do it, but that is my experience. What I don't like about some CD's is that you don't know until you get it whether the particular counties in the state of your interest will be on the CD. For example, it may cover MO, but not every county, OR not for the date of your interest. I don't know if there is a way to find that information BEFORE you order or not. I don't see it in their advertisements. That is my 2 cents worth. Dot
