    3. To all those researching Polish families in Washington County: I am interested in the members of the Michalski family or families who settled in Washginton County around 1873. They came from Prussian-held Poland, probably the area around Poznan. One of them, Nicholas Michalski seems to have been one of the original settlers of the Radom area. I have been looking for immigration records for them and have found a number of them indexed on "Germans to America". It looks like several of them landed at the port of New York city and gave Pennsylvania as their US destination. My own ancestor's third child was born in Philadelphia before they wound up in Washington County, a year or so later. Now here's my question: Why Philadelphia, Pennsylvania? Does anyone know why they would go there first, before heading west?
