    1. [ILWASHIN] Meshack HAILE m Elizabeth MAXWELL
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Haile, Hale, Maxwell Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/5g.2ADI/300 Message Board Post: I offer the following both in the hope... (a) ... that a family member will contact me and be willing to share notes, plus (b) ... of clarifying the identity of the parents of this family, thereby avoiding confusion shown in other submittals to Ancestry.com under the surnames of HAILE and/or HAIL. Meshack was one of several men to bear that name, both in TN and IL. The man of my interest was born 23 JUN 1774, presumedly in TN, tho possibly in VA or the Carolinas. He married at least two times, and sired not less than 12 children, some born in TN, the remainder in IL. Meshack moved his family to South-central IL in the early 1830s, and settled eventually in Washington Co, IL, where he remained until his death on 04 APR 1848, (NOT in 1850 as often reported in other files). Many researchers have linked this man, and others of similar names, as the son of another Meshack HAILE & the latter's wife, Mary HAILE (n KINCHLOE or KINCHELOE). However, bases of their various claims contradict what this particular man's children and younger descendants report about him, such as his dates of birth and death. Futhermore, information pertaining to this man's last known wife are being distorted. She has been incorrectly identified as Elizabeth ORMAND or Elizabeth (ORMAND) MAXWELL, when, in fact, she was simply the former Miss Elizabeth MAXWELL. Born in the far eastern portion of TN during the 1790's, she has been identified (in deeds and elswhere) as one of seven known heirs to the estate of Thomas MAXWELL (c.1755- c.1831), late of Bedford Co, TN. After more than 20 years of research conducted on this woman's family, my various contacts and I have NEVER seen the name ORMAND associated with any MAXWELL relative, except in the HAILE and HALE files of Ancestry.com or the LDS FHC in Salt Lake City. It is the opinion of some, then, that the Meshack HAILE of this posting is NOT a child of Meshack and Mary (KINCHELOE sic) HAILE. Elizabeth MAXWELL md Meshack 02 JUL 1818 in Bedford Co, TN, and moved with him to IL ca 1831. She has been identified by one of her sons as the mother of nine children. Independent research has revealed she was also the step-mother of at least another three children. She died in IL on 07 FEB 1852. The children of Meshack HAILE by his 1st wife or wives may have included the following (based primarily on Census records of Bedford Co, TN, for 1820 and 1830).... 1. dau -- bn btn 1810 and 1820, last found at 1830 Census in TN 2. son -- bn btn 1810 and 1815, possibly Jno K HAILE (unproven) 3. son -- bn btn 1815 and 1820, possibly Meshack (unproven) The children of Meshack and Elizabeth (MAXWELL) HAILE.... 4. son - Wm G HAILE bn TN c.1823 5. dau - bn TN btn 1820-1825; possibly Ruth Ann HAILE 6. son - John W HAILE bn TN 1828 or 1820 7. son - Thos M HAILE bn TN 30 JUN 1831 - dd KS 27 MAR 1897 Children # 4 through # 7, inclusive, were bn in Bedford Co, TN, and all subsequent children are believed to have been bn in Washington Co, IL. Additional information on Elizabeth's children is currently being compiled. 8. dau - Louisa M A HAILE bn IL btn 1833-35 dd after 1904 9. unk - died prior to 1904 10. son - Newton Jasper HAILE (dba Jay HALE) .............bn IL 24 NOV 1838 dd KS 23 JUN 1907 11. dau - Elizabeth HAILE bn IL ca 1839 dd before 1904 12. dau - Jemima K HAILE bn IL 31 MAY 1844 dd IL 19 DEC 1870 Anyone with information to share on the above family is invited to contact me by e-mail. I am not interested in discussing ancestry of Meshack or Elizabeth at this time, merely their children and other descendants.
