Thanks a million Morris Huck for the USGC topographical maps ! Re: Venedy and Okawville townships. I've only just started checking the Middleton "Federal Land Sales" I have to this date on the map you sent me, and finding that some locations are just above the river in Clinton, and just to the left in St. Claire (6West). There is also acreage just a bit east of the maps (Covington Twsp.), and just a bit south. Not to exclude the purchase of the land for the "new" Town of Nashville (1830). Wonder if Nashville has "clear title" for the land that Robert Middleton and William Brown purchased and donated to the county for them to build Nashville in the first place ;o). I think all should know by now that Washington Co. was formed in 1818 before Illinois was a State, and Clinton from it in 1824. Both from St. Claire Co. I stoped counting "Middletons" for the time being as I got up to about 1600 acres, some locations from 1817 on are in: 1 south, 3-4-5-6 west 2 south, 3-4 west 4 south, 2 west ============================================================ Just a few that caught my eye at this time: 1818 - 01S/05W Section: 24 Section Part: SW Acres:160 1821 - 01S/05W Section: 24 Section Part: W2NE Acres: 80 1821 - 01S/05W Section: 24 section Part: W2NW Acres: 80 If these are the correct co-ordinates from the many I have, I think both the Miller and Harryman cemeteries are on this early Middleton land ? if this is true, does this indicate that these cemeteries started after 1818/21 ????? ============================================================ The oldest record I have is 1817, 320 acres 01S/05W section 17. I can't put all the Middleton land locations in this letter (20 plus) at this time, to much work. I would suggest to anyone, to order in a topographical map for the township they are researching.
