I have watched this debate over release of records for quite a while (since last year), but I can't recall seeing the answer to this: What exactly is the County's excuse for not microfilming the records? I recall that they were worried the records would be taken away but the respose to that was that the LDS would come on site and film everything there at no cost to them. It seems to me that this would alleviate all their problems of time, genealogists 'bothering' them, the work overload from our letters and requests and also preserve the records that are deteriorating in the basement.
