Folks, Before you declare a war on the Washington Co courthouse, they will let a person in to search their books. Deaths;Dec 1977-Feb of 1979 Births; 1877-1920 Marriages; I'm unsure of the cut off, but I got thru the 1800's. I won't say they necessarily encourage it, but after I'd been there a few times, behaved properly ( other than an occasional outburst), and made every effort to limit the space I took up, they have since been very helpful. They have a very small counter space to work with and must conduct they're usual business of the circuit clerks' office. Honest, three people in that little area is very crowded. MAYBE a 3' x 6' area. I can assure you that trying to involve Chicago will definitely cause tempers to flare. Chicago seems to be unaware of the southern part of the state. I to would like their records online, as my work schedule doesn't allow for much research time on their schedule of 8 to 4. I believe I can find an address or phone # if anyone is interested.
