James McAfee, Senior, was in Pennsylvania during the 1830 census. By 1840 he was in Washington County, Illinois. He stayed there for the rest of his life. He is buried in Oakdale Cemetery. His death date is 7 Aug 1863. I didn't make good enough notes, but it seems that he was shown as a landowner in the 1840 census. If it wasn't 1840, it was 1850. If that is useful to tie things down, I can go back and check that. I don't have anything on the naturalization date, but I think he had to be a citizen to own land. If that is true, then he must have become a citizen sometime in the 1830s. How do I go about requesting a search in the First Papers Box (#114)? Who do I contact and how? Thanks very much for any help you can give me. John Jones Marci wrote: > John, > Hope this helps......... > Naturalization papers are held in with the county at that time. You might want to request the file for "First Paper's" though. They usually contain all the information that is more to a genealogical resource than the actual Naturalization papers themself. the Probate "First Papers" box is # 114. > Since the Nationization boxes are many, and cover many years I would go for copying the box of first papers. But if you know what year they were naturalized we have the box numbers.....they are all there in Washington County. Let me know. Would be glad to help you on this one........ > Marci > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "John Jones" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Saturday, January 22, 2000 5:39 PM > Subject: [ILWASHIN] McAfee Family > > > I am working on the McAfee family.
