    1. [ILWASHIN] Re: Polish Families From Washington County
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5g.2ADI/86.1 Message Board Post: I found my Polish families from Washington County in Poland. Also found that same surnames can be found all over Poland. I can tell you that these Washington County surnames were in the same parish in Poland as my Wachowski family. Bak (Bunk), Bartoszek, Bauza, Bednarski, Bury, Dziubek (now Schubert), Gogolek, Jankowski, Januszewski, Joswiak, Kaczmarek, Klajbor, Krawieki, Labuda, Lasa, Lewandowski, Michalek, Nowak, Piechota, Piekarski, Piotrowski, Przygoda, Pyszka, Radke, Ratajczyk, Rewolinski, Rozga, Rybacki, Skorcz, Smogula, Sobczak, Szopinski, Trok, Waier, Wetniak, Wnuk, Zielinski, Zmudzinski. These are in Glesno, Kr. Wirsitz Westpreussen (Posen) With the exception of Bednarski, you will find the same names in the nearby parishes of Krostkowo and Kocztowo where my Czerwinski & Panek families orignated with the additional Washington County surnames of Baranowski, Brzezinski, Grabowski, Kubacki, Kula, Mantaj, Powalisz(Povolish). Many of these same families also immigrated to La Salle, IL. and Milwaukee, Wi. While I can't say all of the Washington County families with these surnames came from these three parishes, I do know that several did. These parishes and those in the nearby area are very good starting places for research in the microfilms of the LDS Family History Library. Another parish in Poland is that of Gorzyce (Bnin) Bydgoscz, Posen where WC families have been found such as the Kuberskis and the Marchwinskis. Among the surnames in that parish you will find Jacek, Matecki, Dudek, Kujawa, Malak, Madaj, Mezydlo, Kubiak, Sobczak, Domogala, Lewandowski, Krol aka Kroll, Zmudzinski, Sikorski, Chojnacki, Grajek, Kaczmarek, Bednarek, Przybylski, Gawronski, Siadek, Wesolak, Bauza, Michalski. Witkowski, Jablonski. Note some surnames are the same although the parishes are many miles apart. My relatives out of these include Pyszka, Trok, Dziubek, as well as Czerwinski and Wachowski. I know I've missed surnames. But this a reminder that people immigrated together and went to places where they already knew someone form home in Poland.
