Greetings All I my research I just came up with an early 1830's NELSON estate sale with surnames that some but not all might be interested in. Unfortunately I can't send it as an attachment, have to paste it below. Robert Middleton ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The following are some notes pertaining to the estate papers of Charles Nelson: 7 January 1833: Promissory note, Charles Nelson promises to pay Benjiman Blalocke $20 on or by the first day of March 1834 for value received. There was no indication of what it was for. 7 April 1834: 1. Benjamin C. Nelson sworn as Administrator of estate of Charles Nelson. 2. Benjamin C. Nelson, Turner Abernathy and Asa Morgan bonded for $600 to do an inventory of the property of Charles Nelson. Benj. C. Nelson named as administrator. 3. John Harryman, Charles Harryman and Hiram Tatman authorized by Washington Co. probate judge in Nashville Il. to appraise the property of Charles Nelson. 6 May 1834: 1. John Harryman, Charles Harryman and Hiram Tatman present appraisment bill of Charles Nelson's property as appraised by them 3 May 1834. The total came to $518. 2. Sale of estate of Charles Nelson by Dunning Baker, Crier and Robert Middleton, Clerk. Total of sale came to $441.96 3/4 23 March 1835: B.C. Nelson paid R. K. Fleming $1.75 for publishing notice, 4 weeks, for settlement of estate on the first Monday in June 1835 6 April 1835: Benjamin Nelson, Administrator of Estate of C. Nelson paid D. Baker $2, in full on his claim for calling the sale. 1 June 1835: Benjamin C. Nelson makes claim against estate of Charles Nelson for $20, balance of the price of horse and $5 for a two year old heifer. Re: assessment of estate done 5 May 1834 points of interest: There were 34 line items. Listed on the assessment of those line items the following have written behind them (Benajah's One black pided cow & calf $10 One red cow with white face $9 One black&white pided two year old steer $6 One bed $10 One saddle $8.50 The only significance I can attribute to this is that Benajah lived at home and the mentioned items were his property that had to be accounted for in the estate because they were part of the overall estate. This would seem to establish Benajah as a son of Charles Nelson. Listed on the assessment of those line items the following have written behind them, Widow's: One dark red cow with white face & calf $10 One loom with all the rigging $7.25 One bed, bedstead and clothing $19 One wheel & cotton cards $2 The following is a partial listing of names listed on the sale sheet that I feel may have some significance: James Nelson Benajah Nelson Wm. Middleton Sary Nelson (Sary is a best guess based on the handwriting this could be Benj. C.'s wife Sally (Middleton) Nelson) Reuben Middleton Desher or Dosha Nelson( name came up twice, again this is a best guess) Robt. Middleton Abernathy is listed several times, no first name or intials identifiable On an account presented by Benja. C. Nelson after the sale there is a note accounting for $118.91 1/3 as Widows Dower. This establishes that his widow survived him. My next chore will be to try and wade through the Benjamin Cox Nelson estate papers. jcs NOTE: This is not my work, it was sent to me. Robert Middleton
