    1. Re: [ILWASHIN] 1900 Census Lookup for Washington County IL

    3. Alright, upon further searching I found your family. They are in Bolo Township, Washington County, page 168a, household 170. Peter's last name was spelled Nowac, one of the last spellings I tried. Nowac, Peter June 1838 61 married 33 years Poland(ger) Poland(Ger) Poland(Ger) immigrated to US in 1873 Naturalized farmer owns cannot read or write but can speak English Nowac, Teckla Sept 1848 51 married 33 years 12 children born, 10 alive Poland(Ger) Poland(Ger) Poland(Ger) immigrated to US in 1873 cannot read, write, or speak English. Nowac, Joseph Jan 1878 22 Indiana " John May 1882 18 Illinois " Dora Sept 1883 16 " " Frank Jan 1885 15 " " Martha Mar 1887 13 " " George April 1889 11 " " Josie Mar 1893 7 " All the children can read, write, and speak English. It appears that Peter and Teckla married in Poland c. 1867 then moved to the US in 1873. 10 children still alive, there are 7 at home, so 3 kids probably older than Joseph somewhere. Here's a possibility for perhaps a brother of Peter. Also in Bolo Township, page 163. Martin Nowak 55 July 1844. married 33 years Poland(Ger) Poland(Ger) Poland(Ger) immigrated to US in 1873, same as Peter naturalized farmer owns can read write and speak English Wife--Katy 54 May 1846 12 children 9 alive Poland(Ger) Poland(Ger) Poland(Ger) immigrated 1873 cannot read write or speak English Children (all born in Illinois)--Joseph M.(24) July 1875; John T.(14) July 1885; Martin W.(12) Nov 1887; Frank(9) April 1891; Mary(7) July 1892. There is a Walter Nowak in Dubois Township, Washington County who could possibly be a son of Peter's first marriage. He was born in Poland in 1864. His immigration year is 1874 so that doesn't quite match with Peter though. I wish I could help you with the 1880 Indiana census but I have no index for it so quite impossible to blind searches.
