    1. [ILWASHIN] Allen Co. Fort Wayne, Indiana Public Library Temporary-Closing Announcement
    2. This was on the St.L-Metro List - Allen Co. Public Library Temporary Closing Announcement Please pass the word...one of this country's greatest genealogical collections will be "off-line" for at least six weeks. If you've never been there, and you get a chance, do go and plan to spend a minimum of a half day. You'll be overwhelmed by their collection. Relayed by Marty Irons, who loves that facility. The Historical Genealogy Department of the Allen County Public Library will close for relocation on Saturday, December 14, 2002 at 6pm. The department will remain closed through the month of January 2003. This is to allow time to move all our materials to our interim location. The current building will be going through renovation and expansion. Will materials be available? All our research materials will be available up until Saturday, December 14 at 6pm. At that time the department will be closed so we can move all our materials to our interim location. When the library opens at that location, we will have all our books, microforms and periodicals ready for research. Why will we be closed? Closing the department will allow us to move the whole collection at once instead of doing it piecemeal. This will ensure that the materials you are coming to Fort Wayne to use for your research will be available when you arrive, offering the full collection for our researchers. If we moved pockets of materials, what you needed for your research might not be available. By moving the whole collection at once it will ensure that the materials you are interested in will be available until we close on December 14th, and when we reopen in late January 2003. Where will the interim location be? The interim location of the Allen County Public Library will be at 200 East Berry St., Fort Wayne, Indiana. Locally, it is called Renaissance Square. It is 5 blocks to the east from the current library. There will be limited free parking available; there is also a pay parking garage across the street and more than 150 metered spaces in close proximity. What will the interim location be like? One of the most exciting things about our interim location is that the genealogy collection will be a browsing collection. All the materials will be out and available for the researcher to retrieve them. Materials will not have to be paged; the shelves will be open. How long will we be in the interim location? The projected time frame is 2-3 years. How can I find out more information? Visiting the library web site http://www.acpl.lib.in.us or phoning the department at 260-421-1225 is the best way to get current relocation information. This is a very exciting time for all of us, librarians and researchers alike. Our goal is to keep our patrons informed and continue to offer the highest level of customer service possible now, in our interim location, and in our newly renovated library. For further information, please phone the department or email Curt Witcher, Manager, Historical Genealogy Department-ACPL at witcher@acpl.lib.in.us or Susan Kaufman Tavenner, Librarian, Historical Genealogy Department-ACPL at skaufman@acpl.lib.in.us Please publish and/or pass this information on to all others that might be interested. Thank you! Sincerely, Curt Witcher, Manager, Historical Genealogy Department Susan Kaufman Tavenner, Librarian, Historical Genealogy Department

Surnames: Krawiecki and related Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/5g.2ADI/44.1.1.1.1.2.1.2.1 Message Board Post: Janet, I did find John Krawiecki's death entry in the churchbooks for St. Michaels, Radom, Il. He is buried at St. Michaels. He died 26 Feb 1926. (per the churchbook) The date fits...as you originally helped me. I haven't yet found his and Stanislawa's marriage record. I think it must be at St. Charles in Dubois, cuz I did find the Majewski's/Miaski on the census in 1880 in Dubois. I did find Atonina's and Dionizy's marriage record at St. Michaels. (Dionizy's to Marya PAWLAK., They were married 18 May, 1886)... with a dispension or something..cuz he was married to Julianna Jankowski first. I found Julianna's death info in the records also. I think Mary PAWLAK maybe married Dionizy Joseph for convinience cuz Julianna died 26 March 1886 (from the records) Julianna was Aunt Annie's mom.. (Anna Krawiecki). You send me a note that Anna Krawiecki had an obit in the Nashville News April 1980. She was buried at Mount Olive Cemetery in St. Louis City 24 March 1980 so that date you gave me fits. She never married. (I have a picture of Annie.) Annie worked as a maid for some wealthy people in the St. Louis that lived near Forest Park or in the Central West-end somplace.. My mom still has a couple of pretty occassional tables that they gave Annie. And... anyway since Dionizy and Mary were married 18 May 1886. Wow . He didn't wait to long as Julianna on died 26 March 1886. ( I guess it must have been hard for him raising an infant.. well not guessing ..lol but ..I imagine. ) His sister (Antonina) married Julianna's brother Ignatz Jankowski, I found that marriage record also at St. Michaels and it named the same parents as Dionizy's... Andrezy KRAWIECKI and Kate MICHALEK... I also found Andrew and Kate on the 1900 census for Beaucoup.. living with John KRAWIECKI, so I deduced John and Joseph (Josef -Dionizy) were brothers.. (as he lived next door) ...lol or was enumerated next anyway.. and then. ...later on the 1920 census.. I found a Gertrude KRAWIECKI enumerated with Joseph and Mary Pawlak-KRAWIECKI. (Gertudes mother in the St. Michaels records was Stanislawa Majewski.and father was John Krawiecki.) I don't remember Gertrude..I don't remember if I ever met Gertrude.. {Hoping that Michele sees this note.. maybe her mom might know or remember her) anyway I did find Stanislawa (Stella) n the death records at St. Michaels..she died 9 Sept. 1917...and Gertrude was born 9 Sept 1917. So..I think that Stanislawa died while in childbirth with Gertude. I do remember meeting Aunt Annie..(born 1885) when I was a kid. My mom told me that my grandma Rosie and Annie were close...but my grandma Rosie used to argue all the time with Fronie (Veronica) and (Big Mamie..lol) ... (Mary)...her sisters.. I think Fronie might have even told family members.. not to tell Rosie when she died...or something.. Gosh.. she's in purgatory.. now I imagine.. proboboy regrets saying that :) Shoot ..must have had a huge argument:) Veronica I remember later lived in South St. Louis..and had a parot that could say 'Hello'.. lol. Barb PS. Darnit.. I wish I didn't remember this..but..I broke Grandma Rosies Rose Oneal cupie-doll with wings:( I do have a really pretty bisque angel..from here that plays silent night..was given to my daughter cuz she was born xmas day :) Grandma Rosie definately fits the definition of Tailor.. I remember sitting on her lap as she sewed :) She used to have one of those old sewing machines that you used to have to peddle.. but Uncle Jerry bought her one that was electronic.:) Barb

There was a death notice for John Krawiecki in the Nashville Journal on 18 Feb 1926. There is also an obit for Michael Nashville News Dec 1967. Michael had a brother John who married Frances Zgonina and a sister, Frances, who married Joseph Kasban on 13 June 1915 at St. Michael, Radom. N.J. 22 Nov 1923 Washington County marriage license issued to Mike Krawieki of Beaucoup & Cecilia Rybacki of Pilot Knob. Although it said Rybacki in the paper I don't think that is correct. There was an obit for Cecilia in the Nashville News in late Sept or early Oct 1985 according to the It Happened Here Column in that paper.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5g.2ADI/86.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Their is a great deal of confusion over Poland since it was not a country during the most of the 1800s. I became a country again for a short time after WWI. Posen is a German name for the province. Posnania is the Polish name for their country. Our ancesters immigrated between 1865 and 1890 when their birthplace was under the rule of Prussia, whose capitol was in Berlin which further confuses people. So when you see Posen, Poland, Posnan, Germany and Prussia or even Berlin as a place of origin for Polish ancestors, all are the same area. Many of our ancestors spoke German as well as Polish and had German first names. My great grandfather Czerwinski was Ludwig and his brother was Johan. Reading about the history of Poland helps a little. The political borders changed frequently and continues to do so to this day. Glesno was listed as Glesno, Kr. Wirsitz, Westpruessen and Glesno, Bydgoszcz, Posnan on the microfilm I viewed. I believe PGSA still has a history link. Also might try the Polish Roots page at www. polishroots.org. Both of the surnames Krawieki and Michalek were in the Glesno, Krostkowo, Kosztowo and surrounding parishes and chances are yours came from this area, too. I can't gaurentee it. Both surnames are very common since one is derived from the word for tailor and the other from the name Michael. But since several other immigrants came to Washington County from this area there is a good chance. I have Mary Michalek, who was married to Thomas Rybacki in the Glesno Parish where I found the births of their children. Mary also married both Jacob Rozga and my great grandfather, Frank Dalman in Washington County, IL. Mary had brothers named Ignatz and Frank. I do not know if she was related to the Michaleks in your tree. There was a Frank Michalek in Washington County but his wife's name was different than the name I found in the Polish records. Haven't been able to prove he is her brother.

Many of these same families also immigrated to La Salle, IL. and Milwaukee, Wi. While I can't say all of the Washington County families with these surnames came from these three parishes, I do know that several did. These parishes and those in the nearby area are very good starting places for research in the microfilms of the LDS Family History Library. Another parish in Poland is that of Gorzyce (Bnin) Bydgoscz, Posen where WC families have been found such as the Kuberskis and the Marchwinskis. Among the surnames in that parish you will find Jacek, Matecki, Dudek, Kujawa, Malak, Madaj, Mezydlo, Kubiak, Sobczak, Domogala, Lewandowski, Krol aka Kroll, Zmudzinski, Sikorski, Chojnacki, Grajek, Kaczmarek, Bednarek, Przybylski, Gawronski, Siadek, Wesolak, Bauza, Michalski. Witkowski, Jablonski. Note some surnames are the same although the parishes are many miles apart. My relatives out of these include Pyszka, Trok, Dziubek, as well as Czerwinski and Wachowski. I know I've missed surnames. But this a reminder that people immigrated together and went to places where they already knew someone form home in Poland.
