    1. Re: [ILWASHIN] Stupid Answer?
    2. Merle Bellmer
    3. The only stupid question is the one unasked. For every person willing to risk asking, there are probably at least 10 more who really don't know, but don't have the guts to ask. My understanding----maybe a stupid answer, is that if a veteran of the Rev. War took a land warrant that was in lieu of a pension at some later date. The warrants were to encourage settlement further and further west. (They can stop coming west any day now.) I think the amount that the warrant was worth was dependent on a veteran's rank and length of service. Warrants could be sold for cash. I understand that some men made it a practice of buying up lots of veterans' warrants and then sold the land for higher prices, driving some people on to "greener---cheaper pastures". That is my stupid answer. Happy Holidays to all, Dot

    3. I have just found out that one of them pesky ancestors has a land warrent. I had no idea he was even in a war. Stupid question: If this individual took a land warrent, is it in lieu of a pension? Should I send off for the warrent and pension? Or just the warrent? Thanks Marci

    2. Hey Marci! Sorry, you should check both of them..as different info may be on the documents. Pretty sad, huh? Gets expensive...but you just never know what you will find! If we could get a job as P.I.'s, at least we would be paid for it, huh? Hmmmm, where do we apply? Like I tell the Grand babies...No such thing as a stupid question! Keep em' coming. Regards, Shirley

    3. Hi all, hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful time of the year. An answer, as far as I know, about the Death Certificates. I called someone I know a while back and ask this very question. I was told that Death, Marriage, etc certificates were only required after the SS Act, which required everyone to become registered. Before that people went to the court house once a year to register and this was all legal from what I can find out. There was no need for proof of anything before SS Act, as I understand it. Hope this helps. When I am at wits end I go to Land Records and try to find wills and such, this has helped me when I was lost. I know no other way to get these facts before SS. 3. Albers is in Clinton County, Washington county's neighbor to the north, which is at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilclint2/ . There is a query system under "Queries and Surnames" (for either that county or for all of Illinois) and I saw two other people listed that are researching "James" if that is the name you are looking for. There is also a St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery on line there, but no James is listed. Dorothy -----Original Message----- From: Russell D. 2. In a message dated 99-12-21 00:21:47 EST, you write: << Also, where is Albers, Illinois? >> Can't help with the rest of your message but Albers is now in Clinton Co. IL about 10-15 miles North & a little west of Okawville, on Rte 161. If you don't have one Wal-Mart has a Rand McNally Road Atlas for about $5 that shows even as small a town as Albers. I use that and my Zip code book constantly. Couldn't do research without them. Delores

Ah well, girlhood is fleeting. Blessings to everyone, Laura

    1. [ILWASHIN] My Christmas Greeting to All
    2. December 1999 Greeting to Our Family & Friends Our wish for you this season is that you are Happy & Healthy. 1999 has been quite a year for our family. I (Tammy) got a job at Dennys here in town, well on my third day Holly breaks her finger playing dodge ball at school (Emergency Room trip #1) on the 4th day of my new job Holly broke her arm rollerblading (E.R. trip #2) on the 5th day of my new job management at Dennys no longer had a sense of humor, shortest career I ever had! In may we flew to Disney World, All six of us complements of my mother-in-law (what a gift!) I think the best part of the whole trip for the kids was the Limo ride to the airport, I mean there's just something about a car with a T.V. in it! WOW! We also found out in May about my dads cancer, he underwent surgery and it has been a long hard road back for him and my mother too. Charlies father is also being treated for cancer with radiation treatments. Keep saying those prayers. Melaine broke her ankle in June (E. R. trip #3), it healed just in time to start back with marching band (she is a Color Guard). Marching band took her to Louisville, KY, Toledo OH, St. Louis, MO, & Indianapolis, IN. In 2000 she will march in the Independence Day Parade in Washington D.C, and will get to visit New York to see a Broadway Play. Melaine is also a member of the High School choir. She will turn 16 on Christmas Day, so a caution to you all STAY OFF THE ROADS!!!! Shes driving! Holly played softball again this summer, she did improve a lot, she played first base. She has continued with Piano, and the stand up bass, and taken up clarinet. Holly made Circle the State Choir again this year (big honor), and is a member of the Willowcreek Middle School Choir. Look out world in December she will be a teenager! Mandy & Betsy were on the same ball team this summer. It was their first year to play and their team got a second place trophy in tournament. Mandy has started playing piano and seems to be doing well. Betsy is in her first play at school this December, she even has lines to memorize. The two of them along with their friend Jessica, were in the talent show at Kyle School, they sang Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. They were Awesome! Then there's Buster, the new addition to the family, hes my little Rat Terrier (Terror) we have had him since he was 6 weeks old. When he was about 10 weeks old he fell on our steps (Vet, E.R. trip #4) Hes a wild thing, but I think I love him. As for Charlie hes doing well with the exception of Amoco jerking him around with the job situation. It looks like we will be here a few more years anyway. Me, well through all the craziness of 1999 I have survived. On Christmas Eve Charlie & I will celebrate 10 years of wedded Bliss. I only hope we have 10 more as good as this! Have a Wonderful New year & a very Merry Christmas Tammy & Family
