For what it's worth, I believe the Peters Colony in north Texas was founded in the late 1800s by a large group of families from Illinois. I don't have relatives that were part of that movement -- have only read about it in local history brochures -- but if any of you connect to this sort of migration, I'd be glad to see what I can look up for you off-list. Hi Group, Altho' I do not participate that often in the open discussions I have this to say, that when I do, it is because I have something to say regarding genealogy, tis' does not mean that I do not read each & every entry. (All of which all I do I find interesting) Many person'(s) need to just lighten up and enjoy...I just found lots (well not lots), but 5 pages worth, of info on my Weaver's, just yesterday! These person(s) would be 2nd cousins(S) twice removed, so anyone who is looking for Weaver'(s), Sarah Ann married a Black, let me know and I will pass on the information. Sarah Ann was a sister to my William Cecil. If person(s) do not want to be on this list..they can easily handle that with one click!!! Right!!! I don't even know or care if this note is "correct", my goal is getting to know all of the great folks on this site, and maybe, just maybe, hopef that I can find that I am really - really related to them...(!!!???) You know who you are! 2nd--3rd cousins probably what 3 times removed???? But! You know what? Still family! Now, and this is the only time that I have ever thought this thought! I hope that you are not my 2nd cousin!!! Marci, you can have him,,,,,Ha! Can anyone claim him????? Hmmph! Probably Not!!!! Back to the Weavers, anyone in Washington County, Monmouth that can connect with me? We all know the long shots---Oh No!!!! He is Mine???? Wish that I could quote some great comedian about Now!!! I do hope its ok to send this, thought you might enjoy it. >> Gone to Texas"..... I have also been trying to tie together the links from Illinois to Texas. I have several relatives that lived in and around Washington County, Illinois, then eventually wound up in Texas. Since I live in Texas I have been tracing this trail also and thus why I started reading all your "trivial' messages, a joke of course, I really like the messages and I agree with Dot, if you don't want to read it delete it. Anyway, I found many of the Relatives, (Richards and Woodside/Woodsides), left Illinois right after the Civil war, some followed the Railroad that braved Westward. I found a Railway that was laid and dead ended in and around Abilene, Texas. Some of these folks went through Oklahoma and worked there with the railways, drilling for that new black gold, Oil, and of course there was so much work in Oklahoma and Texas at this time because of the expansion westward after the War. Could you tell me if any of these folks you mentioned had relatives that had the names of Richards or Woodside mentioned anywhere in the family line, also Scott is another one. I have talked with the Railroad Historical Society and they informed me that to access any of the records you have to know the actual name of the Rail they worked on, so it is back to square one. I ordered all the Rail Way maps from 1850 to 1900 and that is where the clue came for the expansion from Illinois to Oklahoma and or to Texas. I f I get further info I will let you know. Hi John Thies: I might suggest that you subscribe to the Wash. Co. mail list in DIGEST mode, it comes out every twelve hours. Normally the list is not that busy, but 99% of the time has very much very useful research information on the county submitted by other researchers. You might wish to add the surnames and dates you are researching. Try it for a while and see if you like it. If you feel it gets you nowhere, just unsubscribe. If you like I can post the letter you just sent me for you. (researching THIES) There has not been a problem on the list in the past two years until the very recent "flames" which I put an immediate end to. Any abuse, abusive remarks, or spam, or any derogatory remarks that are outside the nature and scope of our purpose of family research, that email address will be permanently "blocked" from the mail list by me. Any comments or questions on the content of the list will be sent to me personally, not the mail list. If it is an important issue, we can all vote on it. We on the list all know the rules, and it's unfortunate that I have to stuff them down every ones throat at the very first of a new year. We all seem to be able to live with a 1% "chat" factor, and get a good laugh out of it quite often. Happy New Year & Happy Researching Robert J. Middleton List Administrator

Dear John, Many of us on the ILWASHIN line are good friends and kin. We research together, enjoy meals together, we go to cemeteries together, we just enjoy being together and in some respects the information we get is a bonus, at least it is for me. My kin have been in Washington County for 150 years and I plan to be here for quite a while, so what I don't find out today I'll just leave for tomorrow. My grandmother who lived to be 98 and lived in Addieville, Plum Hill Township, sorry just trivia, always said that is you couldn'd say something nice about someone then you should say nothing. Also please remember, those facts you find soon interesting about YOUR family, are just trivia to some of us. Respectfully Yours, Ann in St. Louis
While I was travelling in the last few weeks someone requested information on putting data in the Washington County ILGenWeb archives. In transferring mail back and forth, I have lost the message. Please send again. Thanks. Gloria Frazier Washington County ILGenWeb Archives Helper

Is someone on here researching Hugh Smith?
HI ALL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FIRST: A very happy Y2K to everyone, and good luck in your research this year. I can personally reflect on the fact that it's about 200 years ago that my ancestors settled in St. Clair, now Washington, St. Clair, and Clinton counties. SECOND: I would like to see all "flaming" stopped on my mail list immediately. If you have a "beef" with someone, write them a personal letter. Do NOT send it to this mail list. MY MAIL LIST IS FOR WASHINGTON COUNTY FAMILY RESEARCH ONLY. If you have a complaint about MY mail list, send that complaint to my personal address, [email protected] , or I can give you the address at ILGenWeb to write with your complaint. If they feel I am not handling the mail list properly, they will inform me. THIRD: I think we could find better use of the word TRIVIA/TRIVIAL. As far as I know it means: unimportant matters of little worth or importance insignificant FOURTH: I have DIGEST MODE set so you will receive your mail every twelve hours. Good luck in your research in the year 2000. Robert J. Middleton Robert J. Dear John, Perhaps you would like to share his name and years that he was there. Although my filing cabinet has email back to November 1999 and you say you joined this list 3 days ago, I can only find email from you on the 2 of January 2000 and that email is only flames. No where have I seen you ask for whom you are looking for. Perhaps you don't know correct procedure for a genealogy list. It is NOT a MESSAGE BOARD. Somehow I think you are pulling our legs. If you would like to present the name of your great grandfather who was the village blacksmith perhaps some of us could help you with your genealogy. Perhaps some of us are related and have information you may be interested in. This is a great list and people are very helpful. We are waiting to hear from you. Jazz

Tammy -- many thanks for your thought, which I'd like to take as a positive one. Will be unsubscribing from this site shortly, as I'm just to awfully busy taking showers to clean off the SPAM that seems to thrive in beautiful Washington County. With all the replies I generated, they may give me the Don Rickles Award for the weekend. I am sorry to hear that genealogical data is so hard to acquire there. Perhaps there is even further misunderstanding with the County folks. After all, everyone knows that 'trivia' is useless, uninteresting bits and pieces, frequently seen as personal, i.e., thanks for the baby picture. Details, of which genealolgy links are built, are always important, e.g., your digests. When you decide to broadcast details, let me know. Bye. Take care,... John

Can any of you give me the name of a good reference History book for Washington County or Madison County, IL? Had these before seem to have miss placed them. Tammy
Now that we are into the New Year, etc. A little excursion is being planned for delving further into the resources available in Washington County. The Library in Nashville, and whatever or wherever else seems to be appropriate along with the weather being cooperative will determine the outcome. If anyone would like to join in on this during the middle of January - please e-mail us privately. The 15th through 20th is the tentatively planned days. Marci, are you still interested? A little research, dining out, chit chat (trivia), or whatever else legally generates a "good time" is the agenda. As for anyone wishing something looked up at the library, or maybe wishing some tombstone transcription or even a tombstone photograph please e-mail us privately with any pertinent information. Hi John, It is true that YOUR library has little on Washington County, IL. Of course they haven't, neither has any other Library because the County officals have been a big stumbling block for years and years. Maybe its because they met some rude person claiming to be a Genealogist, but for whatever reason, this group has gotten more information in the last six months than I had been able to get from them in 40 years. Now, I call that progress. Happy Holidays, give people a chance to unwind from them and we can ALL get down to business. Let's coordinate efforts this year and see what we can accomplish. Edith from Colorado -------------------- > > Might mention I spend 2+ days per week at the No. Independence Genealogical Library here in Missouri.
