Tammy, I thought the redneck census was funny, but I've been so busy I haven't been able to read the list lately (I'm saving them for the end of the semester, when I can work on such things). Did you get some private nasty-grams about the census? Please, don't be afraid to inject humor. We're adults here, I think, and should be able to handle it. Those who can't, are the ones who should leave the list, not you. I know what it's like to post a message and be taken totally wrong, and catch flak from listers. I've put my foot in it more than once, which is not to say that you did anything wrong, but just that printed text can be much more easily misunderstood than spoken conversation. Anyway, hang in there. Doug > To the list, > I sent the joke on the REDNECK census only because this was a census year and > I thought it would make some of you smile. Is anyone on these two lists a member of the Marissa Historical Society? They have a book on Washington County Cemeteries offered for sale but I don't want to just buy a list or location maps of the cemeteries. So...I'm wondering, does anyone know if this book contains cemetery grave marker listings? Russell
>From another list.....maybe helpful: At the website of Ancestry.com there is a free offer to search the 1890 Cesus Substitute. Go to: http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/census/1890sub/main.htm
To the list, I sent the joke on the REDNECK census only because this was a census year and I thought it would make some of you smile. Evidently it was against the law and it won't happen again. Ava & Marci, Wayne and Marie, please keep my email address and keep me informed off this list as I am unsubscribing. I will be in Nashville Wednesday to do research, will any of you be ther. Its been fun but I'm done! Tammy Clark
I recently update my webpage with several old family letters dating back as far as 1859. Most describe farm life in the 1880's in Southern Illinois and some include documentation on ancestors from Ireland and Scotland. They provide a fascinating glimpse into the rural life in that era and also mention several families from Washington, St.Clair, or Randolph Counties in Illinois and from the area of Renfrewshire, Scotland. Some of the family names mentioned: Aken / Aiken, Armour, Beavers, Combs, Coningham, Coulter, Dickey, Downie, Drury, Garret, Gibson, Gillespie, Habler, Hemphill, Kennedy, Kingston, Little, McBride, McCauley, McDougal, McIntyre, McMillian, McWilliam, Mearns, Millard, Morrow, Mulholland, Parel, Patton, Pollock, Rigor, Shanklin / Shankland, Shay, Skelly, Stevenson, Telfer / Telford, Ulrichs, Wallace, Weinmann, Wilson, and Young. There are also a few old photos of some of these families. One is a school picture of the students of Gravel Hill School in West Gran Cote, Washington County, Illinois from about 1920. The letters and pictures can be viewed by using the links at the bottom of this page: http://www.StevensonFamily.com Regards, Tom Stevenson -- http://www.GenealogySource.com Stevenson genealogy page at: http://www.StevensonFamily.com Drury genealogy page at: http://www.DruryFamily.com Gideon genealogy page at: http://www.GideonFamily.com Researching AUBUCHON*CARON*DRURY*GIDEON*GIDLEY* HAYDEN*HEMPHILL*LOGAN*LYONS*McCAULEY*McKINNEY* POLLOCK*REID*SANDS*STEVENSON*TELFORD*TUTTLE*WOODS

Good morning, I have been told by a researcher in Franklin Co., IL that it was not uncommon for Franklin Co. residents to get married in Washington Co. My great grandparents lived near Sesser in Franklin Co. Their two older daughters were married between 1909 and 1912, but neither Franklin nor Jefferson Co. have these records. Would someone be able to look up this information? Emily/Emilia ABRASSART, b. 1894 in Belgium m. unknown in 1910-11. Elise ABRASSART b. 1891 Belgium m. Victor TRAVERSAZ 1909-10 The Washington Co. GenWeb page didn't mention a look-up person for marriages; and they said the Court House preferred research to be done in person. Perhaps, if the records are there, and I have the proper reference numbers; I could write for copies without inconveniencing the staff too much? Thanks for any help you can give. In the Nashville News it states that in 1950 "The City of Nashville took possession of the abandoned cemetery on East Main Street. The latest date the cemetery had been used for burial was the 1840's and the City determined no need to move bodies because all had deteriorated" Does anyone have any idea what cemetery this was? Who was buried there? Any idea where it was??
