    1. [ILWASHIN] Heads up!!!!!
    2. Marci
    3. OK, had to write again..... Here is the way that it is in Good Old Washington County.... The total of Family Historians is about (let's be stretching it a bit) 250, and of those 250, only half really active (125)...of those half, only about half go to the county for research (60 or so)....and not all that often, but let's say for safety sake once a year.... So during the whole of a year you got about 60 people that make the trip to Nashville to search the records.......and they only stay for 2-3 days. (ok, now lets lump them all together in January and February, and they spend the night at the hotel, and eat 3 meals a day spending let's say $100....and then they are gone, out of mind and out of sight).....and no more visitors in a 10 month span...... We all know where the majority of time is spent, courthouse and library (which is free), copies....yeah, we might spend $25-50, and then off to the cemeteries...(free again)....----Total spent: $150...for 60 people.....$9,000 dollars, hefty chunk of change for you and I, but a whole county of wealthy landowners who like to plow under our cemeteries??????? Nyet..... Now look at the way Washington County looks at us......we are a nuisance, we take up their time, and we don't really give anything to the county itself, WE DON'T VOTE, we don't shop in their shops, we don't bank where they bank, we don't use the bowling alley or the theater ....heck, we don't even bring our pets to poop on their glorious green lawn at the old courthouse.....WE DON'T MATTER TO THEM!!!!!! So my dear friends, writing all them letters .... you think that will influence Mr. Luchentenfeld, or sway him?? We are not his constituent's.....HAH!!!!! Where there is a will, there is a way......and like Gypsy Rose Lee's mother said "Ya gotta have a gimmick" and that's in my next e-mail............ The Little General Marci Lamar Kasen

    3. Dot - I have no idea! I have very little information on the Mode's. Valentine Mode was married to Mary J. Waadle. He drowned in 1891 while duck hunting. He was found in the Okaw River near Venedy. I don't know how old he was, but his children were still young. I don't know who his siblings or parents were. I am also looking for info on a George & Phillipina Mode. I don't know if they're connected to Valentine or not. They had a daughter, Catherine, who married Henry Becker in St. Clair Co. Phillipina apparently died in St. Clair Co. George must've already been deceased as he wasn't in the 1860 St. Clair census. Catherine & Henry Becker moved to Perry County during the 1860's. Let me know if you find a connection! Thanks! 1. [ILWASHIN] County Clerk
    2. Jo & Larry House
    3. Tom Ganz, the County Clerk, is an elected officer. If he's not recently re-elected, he's about to be for another term. According to some friends who live in the area, he is not at all interested in family histories and from what I understand is as least cooperative as he possibly can be (within the law) for people to do research in his office - even so far as to have very little counter space available on which to look through record books. Evidently he's been digging his heels in harder and harder in the ground the longer he is in office. I tend to agree with others on this list that the only way these records will ever be released will be locals putting the pressure on people in City Hall. Jo

    3. Steve, I've been told that this cemetery was indexed in the Marissa Historical Society book called "Washington County Cemeteries." I don't have the address for their society on hand, but if you go to the Washington County genweb page, it's there. The book is out-of-date for many people, but you are like me and have ancestors going back to the pre-1850 area in Washington County, so you will find it useful. Russell

If so, what are that person's views on the matter? Russell Russell D. James Milton, Florida [email protected] ICQ#--79087874

The closest cemetery to were they were located was the Old Concord Baptist Cemetery located in the southeast corner of Pilot Knob Township. Has anyone out there done any research of this cemetery? Does anyone know of someone who has access to the records of this cemetery. My great-great grandfather died sometime in either 1859 or 1860. His wife later moved to Kansas where she homesteaded the farm that my grandfather, my father and I was raised on. Today my brother still runs the same farm and has raised all of his children on that farm. Someday his oldest son will probably take over the farm. My great-great grandfather's name was Elithan Hall, sometimes spelled Elathan Hall. His father and brother were both name Isaac Hall and he had another brother named Jonathon Hall. Any help would be appreciated. Hi All: I just rec'd a reply to my recent letter to IRAD ============================================================ Mr. Middleton, Thanks for your continued interest in our efforts to preserve and get access to Washington County records. There are some efforts along official lines that I still cannot report on--efforts behind the scenes. But I will say that we have had no luck whatsoever up to this point. The county clerks at a recent Zone Meeting, at which the Washington County clerk was present, were informed of an opportunity to have records microfilmed at no cost by the Genealogical Society of Utah. I also invited them to make their marriage records available to us for inclusion in the online Statewide Marriage Index. Washington County and two or three others--out of 102 counties--are the only counties for which we have no data. Unfortunately there has been no response so far from Washington County! 3. I want to thank everyone that suggested a way to fix my problem with my printer skipping every other page. Unfortunately none worked. I had to call microsoft techincal support. Turned out a program I had downloaded from the microsoft website called Internet Explorer Version 5.5 was causing the problem. It is Beta phase, whatever that means, and not compatible to my printer. I uninstalled it and my printer works fine. Thanks for everyone's suggestions, Kay
