Dear rooters, I am researching the Atwoods of Vermilion county who are known to have arrived in 1827. James Atwood was born about 1784 and believed to be a Virginian. He married Mary Hopkins in Adair co, KY in 1803. They arrived in Vermilion co about 1827, this according to public domain land purchases. They are believed to be the parents of the following children: 1. Simeon Atwood, born 1807 and married to Eliza McGary in Vermilion co on 30 July 1835. This is my direct line. 2. Jasper Atwood, born abt 1813 married 1st to Eliza Gilliland in Vermilion co on 15 Aug 1839; and 2nd to Delila Layton in Vermilion co on 17 Aug 1852. 3. William Atwood, no further information. 4. Greene Atwood, born abt 1819 and married 1st to Catharine Butler in Champaign co,IL on 1 June 1837 and 2nd to Mary Redman on 19 Nov 1840 in Vermilion co. 5. Alfred Atwood, born 10 Oct 1823 and married to Diadamia Bloomfield in Vermilion co on 21 Jan 1847. 6. Jesper Atwood married to Julia A. Watson in Vermilion co on 27 Jul 1847. May have also had a marriage to Lydia Watson on 12 Jan 1843. 7. Elza Atwood married to Perthia Furrow in Vermion co. on 18 Dec 1849. 8. James Atwood JR. No further information. James Atwood died about 22 Nov 1854 in Vermilion county. It is unknown what became of Mary (Hopkins) Atwood. If anyone has anything that they would like to add or correct please let me know. I have a fair amount of information on this family and would be glad to share it with those who have an interest. Regards, Glenn Rutz Tyler, TX
