    3. Hi Everyone! With all the posts regarding Halls in the Danville area, I thought I'd post my Hall information again, and see if anyone recognizes any of the names. I have included where they were prior to their arrival in Danville, too, just in case it might help tie up loose ends on the Danville connections. My GG Grandfather was Dr. John A. Hall who was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1825. His immediate family left Cincinnati when he was quite small, but later in life he returned to Cincinnati and began the study of medicine with a Dr. Kelly. In 1847 he became a graduate of the Nashville University of Medicine, in Nashville, Tenn. He married Hanna Elizabeth Bemiss, also born in Ohio in 1825 on October 1, 1848. They lived in Pine Village, Indiana for a number of years. In 1861 he entered the army and remained in service for 4 1/2 yrs. The family moved to Danville, Illinois in 1865, where he worked as a physician and druggist till his death Aug. 14, 1896. They had four children Charles H. H. Hall, Elmon T. Hall, Harry A. Hall and Mary Elizabeth Hall. All the children were born in Indiana. John Hall died in 1896 and his wife Hanna in 1906. The obit for Hannah mentions that she had 8 grandchildren which survived her, but I can only account for four of them so far in my search. Both are buried at Springhill, Cemetery in Danville. Charles H.H. is my great grandfather. He studied medicine with his father, and later graduated from medical School in Philadelphia. He entered the U.S. Navy about 1874, where he was initially stationed at a Naval Hospital in NY. He married Mary Elizabeth Bernard about 1881 (probably in NY). They had one son Elmon Lawrence born in November 1881, in Leadville Colorado, while Charles was stationed aboard ship. Charles later was transferred to a Naval Hospital in Japan. While he eventually left the Navy, he established a medical practice in Japan and lived there til his death in 1927, but his remains were buried at Springhill Cemetery in Danville. Harry A. was married twice, first to Cynthia A.B. Leverich with whom he had two children Edward Hall (lived in Lexington Kentucky in 1912)and Jennie Hall (lived in Chicago, Ill. in 1912) . After his first wife's death in 1900, he married Alice Pembroke. Harry was a pharmacist in Danville. Harry died in Feb. 1927 and is buried at Springhill Cemetery in Danville. So far I have not been able to locate any further information on his offspring. Elmon T. Hall worked in NY as a stenographer for a short while, and then went to work for the railroad. As a result, he traveled a great deal, and has been found to date in N.Y., St. Louis, Detroit, Toledo. I do have a photograph of a "Gladys" age two months addressed to my great grandfather as "Uncle Charlie", which I am assume was a child of Elmon since the studio was in St. Louis where he was living, but I have not found any marriage record for him or any other children as yet. Elmon was injured in a railroad accident and eventually returned to Danville, where he lived with his sister until his death in 1920. He is also buried in Springhill Cemetery. Mary Elizabeth married twice with the first husband's last name being Paddock, and the second husband John W. Peart. Mary had a Stepdaughter from her first marriage named Esther. Mary lived most of her live in Danville, and is also buried at Springhill Cemetery. Mary had no offspring of her own, but she was very close to her stepdaughter Esther. I do have a bit more information on Esther and her family. There are several other Hall's mentioned in various documents, at least some of which are related, as follows: Gratton Hall was a partner with the aforementioned Harry A. Hall owning a drug store together in Danville. An obituary for the first wife of Harry A. Hall, Alleta Leverich in 1900, mentions that a relative named Anna Hall of Hoopestown, attended the funeral. Other relatives also mentioned in this same obit were Mr. Pepper of Champaigne, Mrs. Barger of Layfayette, Mrs. Oliver Pollock of San Sonel, Michigan, and Messers Tilton of Rossville. I know Alletta's mother's maiden name was Tilton, and I have lots more information on the Leverich family ancestry. I am not sure how the others are related. I am guessing that my great great grandfather John A. Hall had some brothers and sisters who also may have moved to Illinois at some point in time too, and perhaps that is where some of the other Hall names come from. Hopefully, someone out there will recognize something and we'll make a connection. Here's hoping to find some long lost cousins! Maggie Hall
