    1. Re: [ILVERMIL] Vermilion /Edgar Counties
    2. I don't know what Edgar County has in regard to wills. The earliest probate records that Vermilion County has is 1830. Earlier ones may be at the State Archive level. Almost all persons who died had their estate inventoried to see if their holdings were large enough to probate(got to get those taxes you know) Probate records include those who had a will and those who did not for that purpose. The Edgar County Genealogical Society is open 3 days a week and they have a web page on the internet. I have not seen any probate records there. You can check on the net also for the Edgar County Courthouse and see what records that they do have. IF the person had land then land records would help you. In the probate records I have processed, land records were a part of the probate. Same with Land records, if there was a will it was included in Land Records. Now I am talking about abstracts. IGHS is about finished indexing the abstracts from our local Deed/Abstract co. Since abstracts are no longer used(cutting down on paper) so they donated them to us. Its been a 5 year project and is about done. So if you live nearby, you want to stop by IGHS and check their index of Land records. Granny
