    2. Hi Annie, I haven't yet tried to prove it, but I suspect that all four of those lines go back to at least PA ... probably the Berks-Montgomery-Schuykill areas where I know for sure the Ramseys do. Gr Grandf Reuben Ramsey b. 1842 in Reading, PA was in the union army and came to Vermilion Co after the war was over. Family story is that he met a pal named George Guthrie while serving and that they came up the rivers to the Danville area together. That makes me think that George Guthrie was already from Illinois. When they got there they met and married sisters of the Swank family. Reuben m. Mary and George m. Sarah. (Although I know Ramseys connected to PA, I have only found Swank and Guthrie surnames back there and haven't connected them as yet) After one child, probably from childbirth issues, Mary Swank Ramsey died. In a year or so Reuben married Anna Oliver of the county. (large family of Olivers there too) Reuben is alone on the 1870 and with his second family on the 1880. George G and Sarah are also nearby. By 1900 Reuben and Anna and George and Sarah have relocated to Stuttgart, AR, for whatever reason. The guys remained friends, not to say that Anna and Sarah did. Reuben's oldest girl eventually m. George's oldest son so our lines continued to tangle. In 1900 there is a new born niece with Reuben, BIRDIE GOLLADAY. I have seen that surname on Vermilion email but have yet to find the one who is the father and don't know if Birdie is a niece because a parent is a Reuben sibling or if it was Anna to whom the parent was related. This is probably more than you wanted to know, but you can see why I haven't done the backup work on Guthrie lines just yet. -----Original Message----- From: Bob Johnson <[email protected]> Sent: Sep 23, 2004 11:51 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [ILVERMIL] Re: Oakwood, Illinois Who are your Guthries?
