MARTIN CEMETERY Location of this cemetery is Newell Township (T 20 N - R 11 W) in Section 27, W, W 1/2, NW 1/4 on east side of Bowman Avenue, just north of Danville, Ill. It lies within 100 feet of the road, marked by a pile of rocks, no stones as originally set are left. It was started as a family plot of William ADAMS, on his original land claim of 80 acres in 1826. After his death, Edward MARTIN purchased the property. Following the "Milk Sickness" of 1831, it is not likely any burials were made on this spot as the Adams and Martins started the Briarly Cemetery about 3/4 miles to the north in 1832. From DAR records of the Briarly Cemetery, mention is made of this old cemetery and the known burial of William ADAMS, his wife, Nancy McCARTY CROOK ADAMS, and a Mrs. MARTIN, mother of Edward, Ralph, Joseph and Nancy MARTIN, and several children.
