I am looking for a death record, burial, etc for a John McDonald who died sometime after the 1870 census and 1880 his family was last know to be living in Elwood at the time of the census and his wife is listed as being widowed at that time. He is not listed on the Illinois Death listed. His wife was Mary Jane (Turner) McDonald and his daughter was Sarah M. McDonald. John was born in 1835 in Vermillion, Indiana and that is where he married Mary. His daughter Sarah was born 24 Aug 1867, in Georgetown, Vermilion, IL and by the 1870 census they were living back in Newport, Vermillion, IN he was listed as a farmer at that time. Sometime after the 1870 census they moved to Elwood, I know not when his wife died because I have not been able to find her after the 1880 census but his daughter married 02 Jan 1883, in Ridgefarm, Vermilion, IL to James Sollars, they had a daughter Myrtle who was born 23 Mar 1890, in Cayuga, Vermillion, IN. Some time before 1902 Sarah divorced James and married Dr. John K. Ross on 02 Oct 1902, in Danville, IL. These people must have loved to travel and how they did any farming moving all over the place is a real mystery to me. I did find a John P. McDonald living in 1900 who was the right age as John and he was in the Veteran's home, how long he had been there is unknown. Would Mary have listed herself as widowed if he was still alive and living in the Home? What sort of Newspapers would have been around during 1870-1880 in Elwood? How big of a town is this and how many cemeteries would be in that area around this time?
