IL, I would appreciate a look up for the two folks below. I've come aways, North Carolina to Henderson Co. TN, through St. Francis Co AR, now to Vermilion Co., Illinois. I know nothing about Vermilion. I visited the Vermilion Co. IL website on rootsweb.com and saw some cemeteries, but if there was a search engine for the cemeteries, I missed it. By the way, was there a building boom going on in Vermilion Co. IL in 1870s? It was after the Civil War, so maybe that is why ALSTON ELKINS left St. Francis Co. AR for Illinois. He was listed as a carpenter on 1860 census St. Francis Co. AR. Your help is greatly appreciated or any information. Linda, Elkins Researcher Alston Elkins, 1870 Illinois census Vermilion, Newell township, Danville P.O. - b NC, age 48, farm laborer his wife Palmira [Palmyra UNKNOWN Elkins] born KY, 43 yrs. By 1880 census Illinois Vermilion Co., his wife is a widow and was recorded as "Elmira Elkins" servant, age 54, born KY Looking for both Alston and his wife's burial locations or anything on them. I also would appreciate a look up for Mary Mathews Menoher Leslie, died Dec. 1, 1880 at Rankin, IL. Her son-in-law, James Templeton Torrence, was a minister of a probably Presbyterian Church in that area before this time. His wife was Sarah Isabel Leslie Torrence. On the 1880 census, she was living with her daughter, Mary Wade. Her daughter, Elizabeth Ritchie is shown as a boarder and Mary Lesslie (sic) is listed as "resting up". This listing is for Rankin, Butler township, Vermillion County, IL. Elizabeth Ritchie is also shown with her husband, Samuel Ritchie in Ohio. I do not know if Mary Mathews Menoher Leslie was buried in Vermilion County, IL, with her first husband, John Menoher in PA, or with her second husband, Jacob Leslie, in Summit County, OH. Any information on this family would be appreciated. Mary Mathews Menoher Leslie was the step mother of my great grandfather, Samuel Leslie, but probably the only mother he knew as he was only two years old when his father remarried after the death of his first wife. Blessings, Lorraine Leslie Besmer
