There are some gaps in my info and alot of questions...we pretty much match on info up until we get to John and Mary Felts and their offspring. I can find no definitive record of them from 1870 on...I find Huldah Davis Felts listed with her parents on the 1870 Carroll Census with 2 children, Emmet Lawrence and Melinda L. Felts, marriage license (March 13, 1867)filed in Carroll County confirms she is the wife of Columbus Houston Felts, however he is not listed on any records that I can find during that time frame. That is the last record I have on Huldah and the children. (1) We match on his Civil War Service record. (2) I then have record indicating a Columbus Houston Felts living in Illinois in 1883, born in Va with matching dob, have marriage record to a Rachel Clark: Columbus H. Felts found in: Illinois, 1851-1900 Marriage Index Gender: The gender of Columbus H. Felts is male. Spouse: Rachel Clark Marriage Date: Apr 24, 1889 County: Edgar More About: This record can be found at the County Court Records, Film # 1301880 - 1301882. (2) Then he shows up in census records in Illinois abt 1900 with another wife Annie Almira Allison and a son Bernard Felts (b abt 1886). Felts found in: Vital Records: Directory of Deceased American Physicians, 1804-1929 Died: Aug 1904 in: Clark Center, IL Type of practice: Allopath State/year of licenses: IL, 1883 Journal of the American Medical Asociation citation: 43:1074 I am not sure about the info on him and a Sara Davis..I have seen those records too but do not use them because I have no "proof" to back it up. Now to Emmet Lawrence Felts... (2nd great grandfather) After the 1870 census I find no record of him until: (1) Carroll County Marriage records his marriage to Rosamond Felts on Set 27, 1887. (2) The next record is the 1900 Wythe County census record listing who I believe to be Emmet, Rosamond and 4 children ( 3 daughters and 1 son). Both are buried in Fries Cemetery. He died aft 1930 and she died in 1986. Their son Charlie Raymond born abt 1921 is my grandfather. Now perhaps you could help me with the holes in my info: Where are John and Mary Felts aft 1870 ? Did Huldah and Columbus divorce, did she die or ?? Where does the other children Lucille and Melinda fit in? Wonder where the children were and who with during the 1870-1887 time frame period? It has been a challenge trying to figure out Columbus's story...he married so many times and wandered here and there, who knows? Right now I am at my wits end with him and am going to leave him be for awhile. That is the extent of my info on the direct line of descendancy unless you want other family names, dates etc. What is your relationship to him and how? I appeciate your time and patience with me, this Family Research is new for me but it has grown very dear to me, it warms my heart to know my roots...
