While I'm not totally unfamiliar with Vermilion County, I am not sure where Dodson Cemetery is. I'm guessing it is somewhere near Bismarck from the information you've given. I do know where Leonard Cemetery is, and know that the airport is just off of Bowman Avenue north of the city. I also know where Walnut Corners Church/Cemetery is. Is Dodson anywhere close? Thanks so much for this!!! BTW, the James W. and Mary family in the 1880 census is the correct family from what I know. That the Mary-in-Dodson's information correlates well with what I know gives me real hope here! Joe

Surnames: Leslie, Torrence Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.counties.vermilion/7462/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for any information on Rev. James Templeton Torrence, wife Sarah Isabel Leslie Torrence and their children. He moved to Rankin, Ill in July of 1875. His wife and children moved a month or so later. Sarah's mother, Mary Mathews Menoher Leslie lived in that area also. She died in December of 1880 in Vermillion County. I would like to know if she is buried there and where I can get a copy of her death certificate and burial papers. I would also love an obituary and a tombstone photo, if possible. I do not know how long the Torrence family remained in Vermillion County. The 1880 census shows him as U.P. minister. By the 1900 census, they have moved to Missouri. I appears that they were still in IL in 1892. Mother in law, Mary Leslie, is at Rankin with her daughters, Mary Wade and Elizabeth Ritchie on the 1880 census. Any information will be appreciated. Blessings, Lorraine Leslie Besmer

I wish I had an exact date, but have not been able to come up with anything. Silas and Viola Storm had a child who was born in Sept, 1913, so I would guess that Silas suffered his demise sometime between the early part of 1913 and the time of the 1920 census, when Viola was listed as a widow. I tried checking the Ill. death index but the early records (pre 1916) are mainly Chicago and Cook County, and there was nothing in the later records. Perhaps there is a death index for the county? 2. Even more puzzling about the GAR in Illinois is a headstone in the Kankakee Mound Grove Cemetery for THOMAS DONOVAN. It says he was a friend of Andrew Jackson and there is absolutely no info as to why the GAR put up this stone in 1937!! Jeannie

    2. I don't believe there is a local GAR Post any longer. Most posts disbanded in 1956. You will probably have to search the internet for information. I don't think that the records would contain anything except years of service and date of death. The Illinois State Archives has the Civil War service record of Local soldiers. Granny
