Actually Asa Benjamin Keele was married to Jennie May Goff, bd May 1883, in Centralia. Her parents were James Alfred Goff bd Feb.1859 in Centralia and Hattie (maiden name unknown) bd March 1862 in Illinois. I found a registration card for Asa Keele where registered for the service. "Jennie May Keele" is the way she signed the card. I guess as his wife it must have been required. Their address at the time was 1005 Chandler, Danville, IL. Give me a day or so and I'll send you what I have. I would be very interested in any information on Hattie Goff. My mom, Betty LL Keele Nash remembers going to her grandma's house. Mom said she was blind and had some surgery to correct it. Mom was a teenager then. She said the family didn't seem to have a lot to do with her, don't know why. Mom said she was thrilled to talk to her but didn't invite her in. Her grandma's house was around the downtown Danville, Ill. area. Mom's father was a son of Asa Keele, his name was Charles Kenneth Keele. He lived in the Danville area probably most of his life. He also was a fiddle player and played all over the area, including Indiana. By the way my mom was born in 1931 in Danville -- I think at home. I still have relatives in Danville. My Great-Granduncle was a resident there from 1904-1930 and was the Home's barber. If you are interested in getting the records of the person you are seeking, you can contact Kathy Butcher at the Illiana Genealogical Society in Danville. Their email address is: ighs@sbcglobal.com . They hold the Home's records. I received information which included my GGranduncle's Military History, His Personal info, i.e., his medical disability, his marital status, height, weight, hair and eye color, where he lived before he was admitted and after he was released where he went, his nearest relative and their address. It also included his pension number and how much he received. I just sent her an email and followed up with a small donation to the Society for the trouble she went to for me in searching the files in the Society's basement. Happy Hunting. How nice that it is the same person. The information you gave me is very interesting thanks. I thought William may have gone to Utah for work, I didn't think it could be for religious reasons, but it makes sense. I am not sure William Leeks Bennett is his biological father though, but you would know more than me: I was curious as to why William had his mother's surname of Porter and all the other of Emma's siblings were listed as Bennetts. So I seem to remember I looked up when William and Emma were married and I seem to remember it was after William Leeks Porter Bennett was born. So I assumed he was illegitimate and the son of someone else which was fairly common in those days of course. But I could be wrong or the records not accurate(I hope you don't mind my mentioning that). I have also noticed in my research in this era that sometimes the eldest son is given the mothers maiden name as well as the father's to form a double barelled surname. So it could also be this. However, if he was illegitmate thank goodness he was given the Porter surname otherwise I would never have been able to link Adele's research to my own. It's nice that there was another Louisa Clara. It would be great to swop info I am on loelpo@aol.com and I now live in London. I will send you some info on your email address and please feel free to contact me any time you like. The info you posted for William Leeks Porter is my 2ggrandfather. Edward and Pearl are the 2 youngest of their 13 children (including a daughter named Louisa Clare). We haven't been able to determine if he was named for William Porter as his biological father is William Leeks. Though I haven't yet found any church records I believe him (William Leeks Porter) and his wife came to Utah in 1885 or 1886 after joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints somewhere in Glamorgan. He resided in Ogden, Weber, Utah where he worked as the city sexton and he and his first wife (at least) are now buried in the cemetery where he presided as sexton. I currently live in Clearfield, Utah about 15 minutes south of Ogden. I would love to compare information with you. You can reach me at mystic712000@yahoo.com if interested. I had to have a think as I posted my message last year so had to remember the link to Adele. I understand that my G Grandfather Moses Porter born Cardiff 1856 eldest sister was Emma Porter born Malmesbury, Wiltshire, England in 1838. Emma's eldest son was William Leeks Porter (Bennett) and he moved to Ogden, Utah from Cardiff, Wales for some reason and died there in 1926 which sounds very adventurous for those days. I was named after the mother of Moses and Emma Porter Louisa Clara Porter. And this name has been handed down through the generations of the Porter family in Wales since, and updated to Louise in my generation. Louise Clara's husband was called William Porter so it could be that William Leeks Porter (Bennett) was named after him. Where do you live? P.S.
