Author: Tenn222 Surnames: ELKINS Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.counties.vermilion/7532/mb.ashx Message Board Post: If there are any cemetery books or recordings with an index for Vermilion Co. IL, I would appreciate a look up for the two folks below. I've come aways, North Carolina to Henderson Co. TN, through St. Francis Co AR, now to Vermilion Co., Illinois. I know nothing about Vermilion. I visited the Vermilion Co. IL website on rootsweb.com and saw some cemeteries, but if there was a search engine for the cemeteries, I missed it. By the way, was there a building boom going on in Vermilion Co. IL in 1870s? It was after the Civil War, so maybe that is why ALSTON ELKINS left St. Francis Co. AR for Illinois. He was listed as a carpenter on 1860 census St. Francis Co. AR. Your help is greatly appreciated or any information. Linda, Elkins Researcher Alston Elkins, 1870 Illinois census Vermilion, Newell township, Danville P.O. - b NC, age 48, farm laborer his wife Palmira [Palmyra UNKNOWN Elkins] born KY, 43 yrs. By 1880 census Illinois Vermilion Co., his wife is a widow and was recorded as "Elmira Elkins" servant, age 54, born KY Looking for both Alston and his wife's burial locations or anything on them. Thank you. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. I also would appreciate a look up for Mary Mathews Menoher Leslie, died Dec. 1, 1880 at Rankin, IL. Her son-in-law, James Templeton Torrence, was a minister of a probably Presbyterian Church in that area before this time. His wife was Sarah Isabel Leslie Torrence. On the 1880 census, she was living with her daughter, Mary Wade. Her daughter, Elizabeth Ritchie is shown as a boarder and Mary Lesslie (sic) is listed as "resting up". This listing is for Rankin, Butler township, Vermillion County, IL. Elizabeth Ritchie is also shown with her husband, Samuel Ritchie in Ohio. I do not know if Mary Mathews Menoher Leslie was buried in Vermilion County, IL, with her first husband, John Menoher in PA, or with her second husband, Jacob Leslie, in Summit County, OH. Any information on this family would be appreciated. Mary Mathews Menoher Leslie was the step mother of my great grandfather, Samuel Leslie, but probably the only mother he knew as he was only two years old when his father remarried after the death of his first wife. Blessings, Lorraine Leslie Besmer

Besides her love for nursing, Pat also had a love for nature, especially birds, which led her to become a member of the Audubon Society. 3. Thank you for the info. I just ordered one. I have both books but I have used them for about the last five years and they are falling apart slowly. Now I can put my Granddad Allen's book on a shelf once again with little use. ----- Original Message ----- From: Velda Moore<mailto:Vel_Chick@verizon.net> To: ilvermil@rootsweb.com<mailto:ilvermil@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, August 24, 2007 8:23 PM Subject: [ILVERMIL] Searchable CD There is a searchable CD of Vermilion County with a list of people who have biographies in it. I bought one for my county of Randolph in Illinois and it is wonderful. When you search, you will find every time the name is mentioned. It is on E-Bay. No, I am not selling this, and I do not make a penny from telling you about it. Just look in GENEALOGY. Author: WCarah Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.counties.vermilion/1968.1985/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Dear Ms.Douglas: The Brazelton's were originally from Guilford, North Carolina and moved to Jefferson Co., TN in the late 1700's. Many in the family moved to Vermilion Co., Illinois in the 1820's. The Brazelton's were Quakers and it is likely some Brazelton's are buried at Pilot Grove, east of Ridge Farm. There was a Meeting House there, but there were others at Georgetown, so you need to consult Quaker records. William Brazelton was the foster parent to my ggg-grandfather Israel Patton when he was orphaned/abandoned in the early 1800's in Jefferson co., TN. Israel came to Vermilion County in around 1825 and William Brazelton came shortly thereafter. Some of William Brazelton's brothers came to Vermilion co. as early as 1823. Sep 1867--IA). The couple came to Ridge Farm, Elwood Twp., Vermilion Co. sometime before 1920 from Franklin Co., IA. They are in the 1930 census. It is likely they are buried in Pilot Grove Cemetery, to the east of Ridge Farm. The Appleby's had at least two children: Ralph, b. 1901 and Lucille, b. 1904. 3. There are two Alexander Cummings listed in the Illinois Statewide Death Index. The ages indicate they might be the Alexander Cummings you are searching for. See their website: http://www.ilsos.gov/GenealogyMWeb/deathsrch.html The county listed is Cook, Vermillion. The Search Results page has a link for information on how to order an original death record. -----Original Message----- From: ilvermil-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ilvermil-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Lara Martin Sent: Tuesday, August 14, 2007 2:29 PM To: ILVERMIL@rootsweb.com Subject: [ILVERMIL] Looking for death and obit , after 1900 Looking for the death and obit for Alexander Cumming.
