    1. [ILVERMIL-L] KRUEGER and RINGLER
    2. Michele Chavez
    3. Hi Everyone, These are two of my mysterious lines. I haven't found out much about them, but what I have found is interesting. Christian KRUEGER was b. 1844 somewhere in Germany. I thought I had that figured out, but I didn't. <g> The first record I find of him in Vermilion County is in Danville in 1875, when he married Maria RINGLER b. 1850. Christian and Maria had: Louisa b. 1878, Fredrick b. 1879, Marie b. 1882, George b. 1886, and Martha b. 1889. In 1894, Christian left Maria. He probably went to St. Louis, MO. In 1912 in Danville, Maria filed divorce papers against Christian, saying that he had deserted her. Christian countered with the argument that he had not deserted her, she had been a bad wife and had such an evil disposition that he had been forced to leave her, and furthermore he had divorced her in St. Louis, MO, in 1901! The Vermilion County judge ruled in Maria's favor, but she had to pay all the court costs. Christian died in 1915 and Maria died in 1922. >From Maria's death certificate and from the censuses, this is what little I know about the RINGLERs: Maria's parents were John RINGLER and Anna Maria MILLER b. 1825 in Hesse-Darmstadt. Her brothers and sisters were Daniel b. 1848, Jacob b. 1854, and George b. 1860. Christian and Maria's daughter Marie KRUEGER married my great-grandfather Harley Johnson REYNOLDS in 1903. If anyone is researching these family lines or has any insight into German settlement in Vermilion County and where I might find Vermilion County German genealogy resources, I'd sure appreciate help. Thanks! Michele Chavez mchavez@netwiz.net

    1. [ILVERMIL-L] SEALS and REYNOLDS
    2. Michele Chavez
    3. Hi Everyone, I'm glad there is a Vermilion County list now. This is great! Dorcas SEALS b. 1842 came to Rossville, Vermilion County, IL, sometime between 1850 and 1860 with her father Dawson SEALS and brothers and sisters Kennedy (Canady/Canada), Lydia, Charles, Elizabeth, Dawson T., Narcissa (Susan), and Francis Marion. She may also have had a brother named Jeremiah. They came from Tennessee by way of Missouri, Kentucky, and Indiana. In 1857, Dorcas married John SMITH. They had a son named Newton Jasper SMITH b. 1860. After John died, Dorcas married Samuel REYNOLDS (b. 1830 in Wimbish, Essex, England) in 1863. He had two children from a previous marriage to Rhoda CRONE b. 1839: William b. 1858 and Mary Ann b. 1861. Dorcas and Samuel had Francis b. 1863, Elizabeth b. 1866, Harriet b. 1868, James b. 1870, Samuel Dawson b. 1872, and Harley Johnson b. 1880. I'd like to meet others on-line who might also be researching these families in Rossville. I have quite a bit of information, especially on the descendants of Harley's daughter Ethel, my grandmother. 1. [ILVERMIL-L] Researching in Danville, Vermilion County, Illinois
    2. Hi, Trying to plan a short weekend in Danville trying to find where/when my gr-gr- gr grandfather died. From the usgenweb for Vermilion site, it sounds like the courthouse and library are located within blocks of each other. Does anybody know for sure? And does anyone have a reccomendation about a place to lodge? Researching the following families in Sidell Township: GARRETT - TALBOT - SANDUSKY - BAIRD - CHANDLER Gr-gr-gr-grandfather, Marcus GARRETT b. Virginia 1800, raised in Madison County, Ohio moved to Vermilion County 1845/1849. His wife, the former Drucilla PARKER TALBOT died in the 1860's and was buried in the SANDUSKY family plot. According to county marriage records, Marcus remarried a Mary BEARD/BAIRD who seems to have been a widow with four children. Marcus may have declared bankruptcy and/or died in the 1870's. Anybody got a lead? Marcus's oldest son, my gr-gr-grandfather, Aquilla GARRETT, b. Madison County, Ohio, migrated with his parents to Vermilion County and married Sarah A CHANDLER in Danville about 1855. I have NO LEADS on Sarah's family. Anybody researching CHANDLER's in the area? Aquilla and Sarah GARRETT migrated to Neosho County, Kansas in the 1860's. Thanks for your time. Chris

    1. [ILVERMIL-L] COOK, REYNOLDS, STEIN
    2. Michele Chavez
    3. Hi Everyone, One of my mysteries is WHY did my grandfather Cyrus H. COOK, from Windthorst, Saskatchewan, and just discharged from the US Marines, go to Danville in 1923, where he met and married my grandmother Ethel REYNOLDS? She was working as a maid for a family that had my grandfather's picture in his Marine uniform on their mantle (per family story). The city directory of Danville in 1923 lists Ethel as "maid." Their marriage license says that a Mrs. STEIN was their witness. I am hoping someone might know who she was and what her relationship might have been to Cyrus or to Ethel. Also, Samuel REYNOLDS, Ethel's grandfather, had a Samuel COOK as a witness on his will. Both Samuels lived in Rossville. I even have a photograph of Samuel COOK's gravestone, but have no idea if he is related in any way to Cyrus. Michele Chavez mchavez@netwiz.net

    1. [ILVERMIL-L] ANDRES
    2. Tammy G. Lawless
    3. Hello all, Just joined the mailing list and wondered who else was out there. Is anyone actually in Danville, Vermilion Co., IL? If so, I'm looking for Jacob ANDRES (b. Switzerland) and his wife Eliza GOODRICH or BISHOP (b. IL), family lore has two different maiden names, go figure! Their first child, Perry Washington ANDRES, was born in Danville, Vermilion, Co., IL on Dec 1, 1864. They then show up in the Pulaski Co., MO 1870 & 1880 census, where they have the rest of their family. Does anyone have the marriage records for pre-1900, for Danville or Vermilion County? I assume Jacob & Eliza were married in 1863 or 1864, in Danville. Does anyone have info on birth records for Danville? How about the 1860 federal census for Vermilion Co., or 1855 & 1865 IL state census? For the 1855 & 1860 census, Jacob might have been still in his father's home, but for the 1865 federal census, he & Eliza were married and had the one son. Their next child was born in 1867, (three years later), in MO. Perry Andres is my g-grandfather, and any info on these people would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Tammy Lawless Rattan, OK

Some counties listed the years with the address, some didn't. Does anybody know if I'll be able to get a copy of a death certificate for 1901 in Vermilion Co.? Also, if I send for it, but I have the wrong county, do they refund your money? I'm pretty sure it's right, but I don't want to waste my money. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.
