    3. Edgar Cotton lived in Saline County, IL and I have searched hard there for a birth record. Now I find that he was born in Danville, Vermilion Co, IL. Would someone look up the birth record for me? I have also found that his real name is WILLIAM EDGAR COTTON. His parents were John Henry and Milley (or Mary) Ellen Jones Cotton. He was born 6 Oct. 1868. As every researcher says, I will be grateful for any information. Thank you, Velda

    3. Hi. New to the list. Doesn't seem to be much traffic. I subscribed 24 hours ago, and only got one message! I am searching for MYLER famiy. William and wife Experience moved to Vermilion Co circa 1860 from Ross Co. OH. They are listed in the 1870 census. But not the 1880. William died between 1878 and 1888, the year his wife filed a Petition for Relief against her son, John Milton Myler, living in Ogden at that time. That's the last I can find on Experience. She was born 1810 in Oh but drops off the face of the earth after that Petition. Could someone do a death lookup for me for her? John and wife Cornelia are buried in Bodkin Cemetery by Ogden, with a daughter and grandchild. Experience is not listed at all. Nor William. I can't find his burial place either. Thanks Rose

    2. Diana: Pilot Township is NWof Danville and north of Oakwood (if you have a map). There are no towns of any significant size. Several years ago in combing records around Hampshire Co., WV I remember seeing the Stump name. I have no connection that I know of but its a place to start in WV. Hampshire Co. is located south of the PA border and not far from the MD line. It was known as Old Frederick Co. at one time. Good hunting! Marv Hoppin

    1. [ILVERMIL-L] Abandoned vs Neglected Cemeteries
    2. Zora Schaer
    3. The message in quotes below has a lesson for all of us when talking about cemeteries. I realized after reading this, that it is true. Anything "abandoned" has no use. In talking with officials and others, the word "neglect" is far more useful. No one likes to be guilty of neglect while there is no responsibility if something is abandoned& is thrown away. Neglect sets the stage for something getting done about the neglect. Let's spread the word. Neglect, not abandoned! Thank you, Michael Emery & Cemetery-L for the following lesson and thank you who receive this for reading this snipped and pasted paragraph from the "Cemetery-L" list. The Cemetery-L list is not a name research list. It's purpose is saving neglected cemeteries. "BTW folks who are serious about cemetery preservation do not *ever* use the expression "abandoned cemetery" with any kind of seriousness. The only way you will ever see a real-life abandoned cemetery is if the people buried there get up and ambulate to another site! There is also the case of a party actually exhuming all the burials and relocating them at another site. These are the only cases that I can conjure of a real-life abandoned cemetery. The cemetery you've recently located is merely neglected. ;-) -- Michael Emery Information Systems Coordinator Save Texas Cemeteries, Inc. http://members.aol.com/savegrave/"
