1. Re: [ILVERMIL-L] Records in Danville and Hoopston
2. Thank-you very much for your offer to help. I really appreciate it. This is what I remember...There was an annual family reunion in Hoopston (The CHRISTENSEN, McVICKER, COLLINS Reunion). I attended this with my parents as a child, but was very shy and did not speak to "strangers". I remember my dad's cousin Earl was deaf and so was his wife. I believe his mothers name was Lucille. I remember Uncle Spencer Collins and his wife Nellie (She was Really heavy). I remember that there were not a lot of children at these reunions but I think that Earl did have children when I was a teenager (maybe 20-25 years ago). This is what dad remembers...Ora McVICKER (b. October 12, 1889) married Eva CHRISTENSEN (b. April 16, 1889 in Paxton, IL). They had 6 children Dorothy McVICKER my Grandma (b. July 15, 1911), Opal McVICKER, Charles McVICKER, Duey (Mack) McVICKER, Marguerite McVICKER, and Mary McVICKER. An Uncle of Dorothy's owned a Dodge or Chrysler Dealership in Hoopston. Dad also remembers a story about an Uncle who owned the McVicker Theater in Chicago. William COLLINS (b. September 23, 1861 in Indiana) married Ida ?. They had maybe 11 children but dad can only name 7 Kenneth Jerome COLLINS, my Grandpa (b. April 8, 1906 in East Lynn, IL), Julia COLLINS, Spencer COLLINS, Ira COLLINS, Zola COLLINS, Thelma COLLINS, and Roy COLLINS. Kenneth Jerome COLLINS (b. April 8, 1906 in East Lynn, IL) married Dorothy McVICKER (b. July 15, 1911 in Hoopston, IL) on March 31, 1930. They had 3 children Elizabeth COLLINS (b. May 23, 1928), Richard Kenneth COLLINS, My Dad (b. November 28, 1930), and Lloyd Dale COLLINS (b. June 15, 1933). I am hoping to get an invitation to the reunion again this year because I would like to attend if it is still being held. I am not sure what month during the summer it was. I am trying to fill in the gaps on my Great Grandparents. Ida doesn't even have a last name because my father thinks she died young. He doesn't remember hearing about her. William COLLINS is such a common name that I can't find any information about him and my father thinks that the generation before that came from Ireland, Scotland, and Denmark in the 1860's. I would love to hear from anyone who knows these people. I know that I still have living relatives in the Hoopston area and that is why I am planning this trip. Now my mother and my sister are planning to come with me. Thank-you Shari

2. The Hoopeston public library has micro-film of the Hoopeston Paper (the Chronicle Hearald) from way back. I've found all sorts of wonderful tidbits about my family. The old papers had a section that told of peoples comings and goings. I've seen bits about my relatives going to visit a relative in such and such a place or of a Great Aunt going to a certain school. You may want to check it out for Hoopeston area info. Here is my own 15,800 folks from Vermilion Co and all over the USA...let me know if anyone looks familiar...check the alpha listing first..it's indexed. If you do spot a link, I'll share everything I have with you! I keep adding branches to my data base daily... Here is a listing of the Danville research places...everyone is very helpful here since we all have genealogy in our blood and are quite addicted. You might also post a query at the Vermilion County site....I'm amazed by the informtion folks are swapping from these queries and get a lot of success stories...with over 600 queries and close to 900 obits, plus the bios...all indexed when you select your search mode...it's amazing! Queries Obitua ry Forum Contacts in the Danville, Illinois Area Danville Public Library 319 N Vermilion Danville, IL 61832 217-477-5228 Danville - Illiana Genealogical and Historical Society PO Box 207 Danville, IL 61832 217-431-8733 email - IGHS@DANVILLE.NET Website - http://www.danvillevirtual.com/ Rossville Historical Society 103 W Attica Rossville, IL 60963 217-748-4080 Other Rossville Contact: For anyone interested in Rossville, IL check out www.rossville.com Museum of Vermilion County (large history/genealogy section) 116 N Gilbert Danville, IL 61832 217-442-2922 Vermilion County Courthouse County Clerk's Office 6 N Vermilion Danville, IL 61832 217-431-2616 Danville Commercial News 17 W North Danville, IL 61832 217-446-1000
