    3. Hi Everyone, Would SKS who has access to the Vermilion County Marriage Abstract books look up for me a marriage for James Harvey JOHNSON and Lydia SEALS b. 1829? I'm not sure when the marriage occurred, but they had a son named William Carther JOHNSON born abt 1873. I'm also unsure of his birth date because the History of Ross and South Ross Township said that William was born in 1873, but Lydia died in 1870. Confusing because it does say she was his mother. Thanks! Michele

    3. Sorry Carol, I forgot to change the subject line. You had responded to the list on the Lanham look up and I was hoping there was an earlier book ... if so , I would request a look up for the information on the marriage of Reuben Ramsey to Mary Swank and after Mary died, the marriage of Reuben Ramsey to Anna Oliver. Ramsey/Swank should have been not long after the civil war was over .... Ramsey/Oliver should have been around 1877 I am really hoping for the names of the parents of these three as a bonus He and Anna Oliver Ramsey appear with their first child, May, on the 1880 census for Danville Twp, though I don't know yet if that is the only part of Vermilion Co they ever lived in. ron At 09:51 AM 9/6/99 -0500, you wrote: >There are several marriage books. 1. [ILVERMIL] Halls in Danville, and surrounding area
    2. researchone
    3. Hi Everyone! With all the posts regarding Halls in the Danville area, I thought I'd post my Hall information again, and see if anyone recognizes any of the names. I have included where they were prior to their arrival in Danville, too, just in case it might help tie up loose ends on the Danville connections. My GG Grandfather was Dr. John A. Hall who was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1825. His immediate family left Cincinnati when he was quite small, but later in life he returned to Cincinnati and began the study of medicine with a Dr. Kelly. In 1847 he became a graduate of the Nashville University of Medicine, in Nashville, Tenn. He married Hanna Elizabeth Bemiss, also born in Ohio in 1825 on October 1, 1848. They lived in Pine Village, Indiana for a number of years. In 1861 he entered the army and remained in service for 4 1/2 yrs. The family moved to Danville, Illinois in 1865, where he worked as a physician and druggist till his death Aug. 14, 1896. They had four children Charles H. H. Hall, Elmon T. Hall, Harry A. Hall and Mary Elizabeth Hall. All the children were born in Indiana. John Hall died in 1896 and his wife Hanna in 1906. The obit for Hannah mentions that she had 8 grandchildren which survived her, but I can only account for four of them so far in my search. Both are buried at Springhill, Cemetery in Danville. Charles H.H. is my great grandfather. He studied medicine with his father, and later graduated from medical School in Philadelphia. He entered the U.S. Navy about 1874, where he was initially stationed at a Naval Hospital in NY. He married Mary Elizabeth Bernard about 1881 (probably in NY). They had one son Elmon Lawrence born in November 1881, in Leadville Colorado, while Charles was stationed aboard ship. Charles later was transferred to a Naval Hospital in Japan. While he eventually left the Navy, he established a medical practice in Japan and lived there til his death in 1927, but his remains were buried at Springhill Cemetery in Danville. Harry A. was married twice, first to Cynthia A.B. Leverich with whom he had two children Edward Hall (lived in Lexington Kentucky in 1912)and Jennie Hall (lived in Chicago, Ill. in 1912) . After his first wife's death in 1900, he married Alice Pembroke. Harry was a pharmacist in Danville. Harry died in Feb. 1927 and is buried at Springhill Cemetery in Danville. So far I have not been able to locate any further information on his offspring. Elmon T. Hall worked in NY as a stenographer for a short while, and then went to work for the railroad. As a result, he traveled a great deal, and has been found to date in N.Y., St. Louis, Detroit, Toledo. I do have a photograph of a "Gladys" age two months addressed to my great grandfather as "Uncle Charlie", which I am assume was a child of Elmon since the studio was in St. Louis where he was living, but I have not found any marriage record for him or any other children as yet. Elmon was injured in a railroad accident and eventually returned to Danville, where he lived with his sister until his death in 1920. He is also buried in Springhill Cemetery. Mary Elizabeth married twice with the first husband's last name being Paddock, and the second husband John W. Peart. Mary had a Stepdaughter from her first marriage named Esther. Mary lived most of her live in Danville, and is also buried at Springhill Cemetery. Mary had no offspring of her own, but she was very close to her stepdaughter Esther. I do have a bit more information on Esther and her family. There are several other Hall's mentioned in various documents, at least some of which are related, as follows: Gratton Hall was a partner with the aforementioned Harry A. Hall owning a drug store together in Danville. An obituary for the first wife of Harry A. Hall, Alleta Leverich in 1900, mentions that a relative named Anna Hall of Hoopestown, attended the funeral. Other relatives also mentioned in this same obit were Mr. Pepper of Champaigne, Mrs. Barger of Layfayette, Mrs. Oliver Pollock of San Sonel, Michigan, and Messers Tilton of Rossville. I know Alletta's mother's maiden name was Tilton, and I have lots more information on the Leverich family ancestry. I am not sure how the others are related. I am guessing that my great great grandfather John A. Hall had some brothers and sisters who also may have moved to Illinois at some point in time too, and perhaps that is where some of the other Hall names come from. Hopefully, someone out there will recognize something and we'll make a connection. Here's hoping to find some long lost cousins! Maggie Hall

    1. [ILVERMIL] Johnson family
    2. I'm looking (and have been for 10 years) a Dr. Johnson from Vermilion county, IL. Unfortunately, that is all I know about him for sure! I do know that he had a daughter Callie M. Johnson who married Frederick Hubb/Hupp/Huff in 1884 in Danville. From the 1900 census of Callie and Fritz, it lists Callies parents as being born in OH (her father) and NJ. Today, all afternoon, I've been looking at land records on the IL Land Sales page and I *think* I've hit a gold mine. I found a John James Johnson who purchased almost 650 acres of land in one day (which I think only doctors or lawyers could afford then) and March 27, 1854, and then 160 more on the 30th of the same month. Does anyone know anything about the family of Callie? or about this John James Johnson?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've hit a brick wall for 10 years on this line and I'm just grasping for straws now!:) Erin Bradford erinf5119@aol.com kshai@geocities.com http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~kshai (The Genealogy Depository)

    2. Lisa, I,too, am searching on the Truax line. As far as the marriage of Benjamin Smalley and Eliz. Truax, I have their marriage date as Sept. 26, 1841 and this was from the Vermilion co. marriage register. Not to say that I couldn't have copied it down wrong though. Right now, I can't find, (actually don't have the time to look) to see if I made a copy of that log. If I can be of any help, just holler. Dianne
