He had a daughter (Nancy) who married Jacob VARNER of Warren Co. in 1816. I don't believe Jacob and family ever moved to Vermilion Co., but this might provide a clue. Good luck! -- Dennis M. 1. Re: [ILVERMIL] Woodlawn Cem - Varners - who are they?
    2. Hello Dennis I do not know where this family came from. There is some indication that the oldest (Allan) MAY have come from Virginia but I cannot really say for sure. I had hoped I might sort of get an idea of how these folks are related to one another. The apparantly are the same family. I have a very large database on Varners (many different families) but I am unable to tie this bunch in with any of them I am assuming the Warren County Varners you refer to are the Martin Varner/Elizabeth Reich line. If so, I haven't been able to tie the Vermilion Co. IL Varners in with them. Nor have I been able to connect the Vermilion Co. Varners to the Henry Varner/Malisa Haines line from Clinton Co. OH. I have found a David Dickson Varner born in VA - the son of Jonathan Varner & Mary Puffenbarger. However this fellow would PROBABLY be too old to be the David Dickson Varner buried in Indianola. If you are aware of any infomation that migh connect the Vermilion Co. IL Varners to ANY Ohio Varner, I would be interested in learning about it. Thanks for you response. Donald Varner .

    2. Gee Donald do you expect this list to do your family history research? I suggest that you check the census of Vermilion Co, Ill to find these people, it will tell you where they came from and how they are related Welcome to Vermilion County, Illinois - UsGenWeb Project Then I suggest you check the marriages and deaths of Vermilion County Illinois State Archives Databases Then check Pape Mortuary Database for obit info. The only thing I cannot help you with is if they are Varners still here. Maybe someone else could check the telephone directory Granny

    2. All you can do is flood the net with queries. Surnames of Cotton, his wife's surname, locations everyplace he lived and was born), etc and hopefully you will run across someone. Your only hope is finding someone from Robert's line that has researched the family and has info and maybe you could be so lucky to find a bible record. I tried checking the land abstracts that IGHS has to see if by chance he left any record. No luck only William K. did. Good Luck Granny

    1. Re: [ILVERMIL] Vermilion /Edgar Counties
    2. Granny, I understand , none of the Cottons are related to you, that's probably good. But, getting to dear old Robert, shouldn't there be some kind of simple record of his death ? Even as early as 1824 ? Finding his burial plot I realize is impossible, at this point in time. I know I am being redundant, but on this entire Vermilion Co., LIST, I can't believe there isn't someone with a bit of information. It is the same thing on the Cotton List. If he was an old bandit, I can accept that, we all have them. But will keep searching. Thank you again for your patience. Lois

    1. Re: [ILVERMIL] Vermilion /Edgar Counties
    2. I am Granny and none of these people are related to me. I just help people looking for their ancestors in Vermilion County. I found Robert Cotton in the Lottie Jones History of Vermilion county but not on the pages mentioned. As I stated before to the other person inquiring about him, It would be very doubtful if any burial place would be found for him as the stone has probably long disappeared, if their was one. Granny

    3. Granny said this is not related to hers, is it yours because of the date, 1824 country, settled at a very early date and figured conspicuously in public affairs. The father of our subject only lived two years after coming to this county, dying when a young man, in 1824. He left a widow with a family of seven children of whom Henry was next to the youngest Granny. If you have access to the "History of Vermilion County", ( ICHS - DHR 977.365), on page 110, there is a biographical sketch on Robert Cotton. What could have happened to him ??? He came to the county, before it was formed in 1822 and was dead by 1824. You have been so informative and I don't really expect you to know the answers, believe me. I am four hours or better north of Danville in Wisconsin, so at this point in time it is a bit out of the question for me to get down there and find answers the experts can't answers. 1. Robert Cotton, page 110
    2. Granny, "History of Vermilion County" Vol I Lottie E. Jones Bottom of page 110, biographical sketch of Robert Cotton. Also in Chapter IX, Bob Cotton is mentioned arriving in the area of Brooks Point with Thomas O'Neal. Benjamin Brooks had come earlier to find the land he had staked, taken by someone else. It was Benjamin Canady who saved the day, by giving Brooks a bit of his land. The book was submitted by Joy Fisher ??? Lois

Garrett Lacy born 2-25-1816 Hamilton Co, Ohio died 10-1-1889 Homer, Champaign Co, Ill married Lucy Abbott born 10-9-1818 Ross Co, Ohio Married 2-23-1836 Newport, Vermillion Co, Ind. she died 10-22-1899 Illinois I found them in the Davis Cemetery. This information was found on the net by Gloria L. Ancestry.com The GAR cemetery does not have Garrett Luther Lacy nor his wife Nancy J. He was born 3-14-1845 Vermillion Co, Ind and died 4-18-1910 Philo, Champaign Co, Ill. Nancy died 5-25-1892 Homer, Ill. For the GAR cemetery, I suggest you contact the Urbana Free Library in Urbana, Ill. The IGHS library has an old reading of GAR and I'm sure it is not complete. Granny
