    1. William Harrison & Sarah Lou Ann (WALLACE) MARTIN
    2. Hello, Looking for any additional information on William Harrison MARTIN, b. 1840 IL, the s/o Rawley Morgan and Abigail H. (NICCUM) MARTIN, d. 1866. He married Sarah Lou Ann WALLACE 29 Aug 1860 Vermilion Co., IL. Sarah b. 1842 IN, d. 5 May 1884-1891 Higginsville, Vermilion Co., IL, bur. Higginsville Cemetery (no stone). They had 2 children: James Luther and Sarah H. After William's death, Sarah m. John Byron CREVISTON 9 Jan 1867 Vermilion Co., IL. John b. 1840 IN. John and Sarah had 5 children: Harriet Jane, Minnie M., William, George M. and Charles S. Especially interested in the names of Sarah's parents. I received the following obituary from a cousin but it did not have the year on it. I have narrowed the year down to 1884-1891. Here is Sarah's obituary: Higginsville, May 12.-At the request of Mrs. Sarah Lou Ann Creviston I write the following facts of her death, given by those present. She desired they should be printed as a warning to the human race. She and her daughter, Minnie, were living alone, her other children's work calling them away: her husband was in the western part of Illinois at Grand Tour, Union County. On May 5th @ 3pm, she sent her daughter to Mrs. Sarah Roger's, a quarter of a mile on an errand. She went to extinguish a brush heap that was on fire near a line fence between her and Mrs. Reese's, when her clothing caught on fire and burned off, her shoes only were left, and they were badly burned. Mrs Ellen Foreman heard her screams and went to her aid, followed her to her home where she had walked 300 feet, her body being burned badly all over except her face and hair. She sent for her children: when her daughter returned, who had been gone only twenty minutes, her first words were, "Minnie, I am going to die." As her daughter was applying restoratives the suffering mother sang the song through, "Asleep in Jesus." She sent for Mr Jake Cardiff, a class-leader, and when he arived she asked him to pray for her and made all arrangements about her burial. She selected three hymns for Mr Cardiff to sing, 'Shall we gather at the river', There's a gentle voice within", and He leadeth me, He leadeth me'. She wanted to be taken to the church and funeral preached by Rev John Vincene, assisted by Rev Hardenbrook. She had been a church member for a good many years in the M.E. church, but she died a christian. She was an obliging neighbor, a devoted mother and died at 7:15 pm on the 5th (lost?) In full faith of a home in Heaven. She said she was ready and willing to go. After she was past speaking she was asked by Mrs Dr Porter and Mrs Cardiff and others, if it was all well with her and she bowed her head that is was. She complained of no suffering, only of smothering and her stomach, although her back was paralyzed. She died with a smile, showing the world that she met her God in peace. Medical aid was summoned and everything was done, but all in vain, too late. On the 6th @ 2 pm, a large concourse of people followed the remains to the church. After an able sermon was preached, the body was buried in Higginsville cemetery. The friends have the sympathy of the whole community. Any additional information on this family would be appreciated. Thank you! Daryl Bruner San Antonio, TX

    1. Great Grandparents Hess of Vermilion County, IL
    2. Mary Paulius
    3. Viola Mae (Hobson) Hess, She did not care for first name, went by Mae, Mother's name Jane Hobson, listed her father as William Myers, (this I do not understand unless he was her step father or born out of wedlock) lived in Milford, IL., born 1865 March 8. She married Charles E. Hess, September 26, 1884, is the date of the marriage registration, he was 22 years old, father was George W. Hess, according to document mother unknown. He was from Paris, IL, lived in Danville at the time of marriage and was a R.R. Conductor. The had one daughter Mary Winifred Hess. I do have a copy of her death certificate, but I believe my Grandfather filled it out incorrectly and since Grandma Mae completed the marriage form, feel the first is correct. The information as to mother was Mary (Whittaker) Hobson on death certificate. According to my Aunt (now deceased) she was divorced-- which one did not talk about and also lived on a poor farm at one time. On the death certificate a widow. I have searched but have not been able to find other information. Would appreciate ANY INFORMATION. Thank you.

    1. Re: [ILVERMIL] BIRTHS
    2. Hi Deb, The IRAD (Illinois Regional Archives Depository) at Illinois State University has an early birth index (1877-1901), as well as a birth records (1877-1903) for Vermilion County. Not all births that early were not recorded, since they weren't required yet, but I would check with them to see if your Grandmother might be in their records. The cost is very minimal, I believe it is $1.00 or so per copy when you send a SASE. Their address is: Illinois Regional Archives Depository Williams Hall Illinois State University Campus Box 5500 Normal, IL 61790-5500 Telephone: (309) 452-6027 Hope this helps!! Teri
