Surnames: Lemon, Sconce, Palmer, Pierce, Chenowith Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3g.2ADI/4517 Message Board Post: I am searching for the family if John H. Sconce John married Emily A. Palmer about 1848. Their only child, Anna B., was born 1849. The family appears in the 1850 census for Vermilion Co., Ill. John H. Sconce is 30 years old born in Kentucky, he is a lawyer. He may be the defense attorney in Danville who worked two cases alongside A. Lincoln in 1850 and 1851. Emily is the daughter of Norman D. Palmer. She is 23 in the above census and she was born in Terre Haute, Indiana. Anna B. Sconce was born in or near Danville she is one year of age in the census. Many of the Vermilion Sconce people came from Kentucky originally. However, in all my searches I have not been able to attach John H. Sconce, the lawyer, to any of them. His early demise is helping to confound my efforts. He died either before his wife left for Oregon in the spring of 1853 or he died 1856 the date which was reported by his daughter's obituary. Sconce's wife Emily remarried in January 1856 so there was either a death or a divorce prior to her remarriage.
