I don't have access to cemetery books but the Illinois Death Index is available for you Illinois State Archives Databases It lists deaths from 1916 to 1950 they also have the Illinois Marriages. Papemortuary.com has obit info. George W. died 10-17-1929 and Anna Eliza died 4-6-1917 good luck
If you actually went to the cemetery itself and checked their books and he is not there then he may not have a stone but the obit at papes' has him buried there. Of course newspapers have been known to report the wrong item. The Known Burials of Vermilion County is available at the Danville Library and at the Illiana Genealogical Society on North Street. They also have CDs of these burials available too at IGHS. And Myers could also be Meyers, or Meirs too. Granny

Can anyone look in the cemetery books for me? Thanks Edd Cuba, Illinois
I am looking for information on Eli Myers. He died 4/3/1894 and is buried in Springhill Cemetery. I went to the Springhill cemetery list but he is not shown to be buried there. I am looking for Eli and what other Myers are buried there and when? Paul

Sharon Take life easy. Its far better to go to genealogy library and check all the known burials of Vermilion County in a book than to walk the cemeteries. They also have those cemeteries in Vermillion Co, Indiana too. If you find them then the map they have for the cemeteries will help you pinpoint their location. Can't say if ALL have maps, but the majority do. Good luck
In a message dated 1/4/2005 8:11:29 P.M. US Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: Sharon May I suggest: 1. You look for burials in National Cemetery in Danville. Since soldiers were buried there free and got a stone. The widow often opted to do this. She too could be buried out there, but alas there would not be a stone for her. 2. Death records were not REQUIRED until 1916 so they were often sparse and there was minimal info on them. 3. Elwood is a township in Vermilion County. Ridge Farm being the town. 4. There are a few cemeteries in that area. Crown Hill, being the largest. Check the papemortuary.com web site to get cemeteries of Verm county. 5. Danville, Ill had the newspapers. They are on microfilm at the Danville Public Library. But again, don't expect to find an obit for that early time period. Now they did have a column in the paper that had news of soldiers at the Home. But don't recall the time period. Obits were not the usual. Unless you died tragically, by scandal(like murder) or were prominent or wealthy then you might find one. At alas, a WOMAN would certainly not have one! IF she did, it talked of her husband and not her. 6. Since they moved alot and most assuredly since Ind is 15miles from Ill. they often went back and forth.. The widow could have moved back near relatives in Ind and of course when her daughter married she probably would move near or WITH them. I haven't found another marriage for her, which would be the usual, if she had more than 1 child and was of child bearing age. Hope this helps Granny P. S. All the marriages, census, cemetery records are available at the Illiana Genealogical & Historical Society in Danville. They have a web page too. Granny, Thanks for all the advise I have checked all the cemeteries that are listed on line - did not find them Check Pape's many times - not there either. Guess when I make my yearly trip that way will have to really dig deeper take a few more walks through a few more cemeteries and see if I can find out more. But thank you for all your suggestions. As far as I know they only had the one child so that makes looking for siblings not hopeful. Last year I finally found Mary's parents in the Newport, Old Thomas Cemetery in Vermillion, IN, and while at that cemetery looked for them hoping that they may have been buried somewhere close to them, but no that was not the case. I am looking for a death record, burial, etc for a John McDonald who died sometime after the 1870 census and 1880 his family was last know to be living in Elwood at the time of the census and his wife is listed as being widowed at that time. He is not listed on the Illinois Death listed. His wife was Mary Jane (Turner) McDonald and his daughter was Sarah M. McDonald. John was born in 1835 in Vermillion, Indiana and that is where he married Mary. His daughter Sarah was born 24 Aug 1867, in Georgetown, Vermilion, IL and by the 1870 census they were living back in Newport, Vermillion, IN he was listed as a farmer at that time. Sometime after the 1870 census they moved to Elwood, I know not when his wife died because I have not been able to find her after the 1880 census but his daughter married 02 Jan 1883, in Ridgefarm, Vermilion, IL to James Sollars, they had a daughter Myrtle who was born 23 Mar 1890, in Cayuga, Vermillion, IN. Some time before 1902 Sarah divorced James and married Dr. John K. Ross on 02 Oct 1902, in Danville, IL. These people must have loved to travel and how they did any farming moving all over the place is a real mystery to me. I did find a John P. McDonald living in 1900 who was the right age as John and he was in the Veteran's home, how long he had been there is unknown. Would Mary have listed herself as widowed if he was still alive and living in the Home? What sort of Newspapers would have been around during 1870-1880 in Elwood? How big of a town is this and how many cemeteries would be in that area around this time?
